Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2024: shortlist announced

Eighty finalists from 17 countries and territories in the running across 10 categories, as prestigious awards enter sixth year

January 25, 2024

The shortlist for the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2024 has been announced, with Indian universities securing the most nominations.

Eighty finalists are in the running for the sixth edition of these awards, with 17 countries and territories represented. More than 600 entries were received across 10 categories, which cover the full range of university activity.

While India leads the way with 16 nominations, there also is double-figure representation from Thailand and Singapore, which boast 11 and 10 nominations, respectively.

Meanwhile, some universities have put in strong individual performances: the National University of Singapore and India’s Christ University both bagged four nominations apiece, while City University of Hong Kong, India’s Lovely Professional University and Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University each hopeful of topping three categories.

Phil Baty, THE’s chief global affairs officer, said the 2024 shortlist was “bursting with brilliance and innovation across 10 category areas, and all those who feature should be extremely proud to have reached the final stage”.

“The continuing enthusiasm shown by those working in higher education across this diverse and dynamic continent is clear for all to see, and it is THE’s great honour to shine a spotlight on stories of excellence and innovation each year,” Mr Baty said.

“The THE Awards Asia remain proudly inclusive, and as we compiled this shortlist, we were reminded that groundbreaking ideas and the seeds of best practice can flourish at institutions of all shapes and sizes, wherever they are in the region.”

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 29 April. The event will conclude the first day of THE’s Asia Universities Summit, which is being held in partnership with Sunway University.
