Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, in Thailand was established in 2004 and started off by solely teaching undergraduate programmes. It has since expanded to offer master's degrees and doctoral courses. It has faculties in education; humanities and social sciences; science and technology; management; industrial technology, and public health. The university has four strategies for development, including producing graduates to support local security, reforming the development of teachers, local development and sustainable management. The city of Nakhon Ratchasima is one of the four major cities in the region of Isan. Its name is commonly shortened to Korat. The Phimai Historical Park consists of a 12th-century temple, a place for students to enjoy Thai architecture and history. The city’s historical sights also include the famous Thao Suranari statue, translated as Grandma Mo, who was the wife of Nakhon Ratchasima’s deputy governor. Students studying here also have access to breathtaking parks and nature, such as the Lamtakhong Dam and the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo. Nakhon Ratchasima is also known for its agriculture, producing rice, tapioca and sugar and contributes largely to the Isan region’s exports. The region is also famous for technology, with the establishment of Seagate Technology factory, where hard-drives and data storage equipment is produced. Other large companies have established themselves in Nakhon Ratchasima, such as Tesco Lotus, the Thai branch of Tesco, HomePro and Makro. Students therefore have a wealth of industry in close proximity to them, whether it be in agriculture, retail or technology. The city has great transport links, allowing students ease of travel during their free time. With rail, road and air services, students can travel to popular metropolitan areas such as Bangkok.

Successful candidates must have a strong research profile, one that demonstrates their ability to apply the methods of the Auxiliary Historical Sciences - especially in the fields of documentary source studies as well as archival, library and manuscript cultures of the European Middle Ages. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. To provide technical and operational leadership in the development, execution, and translation of sustainable geomaterials for land reclamation under an industry-collaborative research programme, working under the strategic direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure successful delivery from laboratory research to pilot and field implementation. Key responsibilities include: Support the PI in the planning, execution, and delivery of the research project, including leading day-to-day technical activities to ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved within timeline and budget. Provide technical leadership in the development of carbonation-engineered geomaterials (e.g. demolition fines, incineration bottom ash) for reclamation applications, aligned with the research direction set by the PI. Design and oversee experimental programmes, including laboratory testing, pilot-scale trials, and field validation, ensuring technical rigour and relevance to industry application. Translate research findings into engineering solutions, including material specifications, performance frameworks, and implementation methodologies suitable for industry adoption. Lead the scale-up of laboratory processes (e.g. aqueous carbonation) to prototype and pilot systems, including system design, optimisation, and operational considerations. Supervise and mentor research staff (RFs, REs, RAs), including task allocation, technical guidance, and monitoring of progress to ensure effective team delivery. Coordinate with industry partners and vendors on technical matters, including trials, material supply, equipment development, and site implementation. Identify and resolve complex technical challenges related to material variability, process scalability, and environmental compliance. Oversee environmental performance assessment, including leachate testing and alignment with regulatory requirements for reclamation use. Prepare and contribute to technical reports, journal publications, and presentations for stakeholders, funding agencies, and dissemination. Support the PI in identifying new research opportunities, contributing to proposal development, and strengthening industry engagement. Co-supervise undergraduate, Industrial Master and Doctoral students in alignment with project objectives. Ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health (WSH) regulations, including maintaining risk assessments and safe laboratory and field practices. Job Requirements PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of relevant industry or research experience; or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with at least 15 years of relevant industry or research experience. Demonstrated experience in leading technical components of research or engineering projects and supervising junior staff. Experience in experimental programme design, laboratory and/or field testing, and data-driven engineering evaluation. Familiarity with material treatment or processing methods (e.g. stabilisation, carbonation, or related technologies) will be advantageous. Experience in industry collaboration, pilot-scale implementation, or technology translation will be advantageous. Experience in reclamation or ground improvement will be advantageous. Knowledge of environmental assessment and leachate testing for construction materials will be an advantage. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated doctoral candidate to join us for a fully funded PhD at the University of Southampton, working on the smart design of thermoelectric coolers for on-chip cooling. This studentship is offered as part of the prestigious Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network “MaGnesium Alloys for effICient solId stAte cooliNg (MGICIAN)”, a pan-European programme focused on advanced thermoelectric materials, devices, and system-level integration. About MGICIAN MGICIAN brings together academic and industrial partners across Europe and trains 15 Doctoral Candidates in materials development, interface engineering, module fabrication, and system integration. As a doctoral candidate, you will benefit from an integrated training programme combining academic research, industrial exposure, and international mobility, alongside structured training in transferable and professional skills. Project description Based at the University of Southampton, this PhD project will focus on the development of advanced thermoelectric cooler designs for on-chip cooling applications within the MGICIAN Doctoral Network. The project will address model-based and data-driven design strategies to optimise thermoelectric cooler architectures using magnesium-based materials and modules developed in the consortium. Particular emphasis will be placed on improving cooling efficiency, thermal uniformity, dynamic response, and integration compatibility with modern microelectronic and photonic platforms. The project will combine numerical modelling, optimisation methodologies, and experimental validation to establish design–performance relationships and ensure scalability and application-oriented implementation of thermoelectric cooling solutions for next-generation compact electronic systems. Research Tasks and Training Objectives The doctoral candidate will: Develop numerical and data-driven models for thermoelectric coolers used in on-chip cooling applications Apply optimisation algorithms to improve cooling efficiency, thermal uniformity, and scalability Investigate design trade-offs between performance, footprint, and energy consumption Support the design and fabrication of thermoelectric coolers for localised chip-scale cooling Experimentally evaluate cooling performance, response time, and reliability Integrate modelling insights into device-level and system-level demonstrators within the network Collaborate closely with materials, module, refrigeration, and photonics-focused DCs Participate in secondments, network-wide scientific training, and transferable skills activities Disseminate research results through peer-reviewed publications, international conferences, and outreach initiatives Required Qualifications Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field Technical Competences: Strong background in thermal management, thermoelectric systems, or numerical modelling Experience with simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, FEM, MATLAB, or similar software) Knowledge of optimisation methods, data-driven modelling, or control strategies is advantageous Understanding of microelectronic or photonic device thermal behaviour is beneficial Interest in compact cooling technologies and high-performance electronic systems Personal Skills:  Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently and within an international interdisciplinary research network Excellent written and spoken English Marie Skłodowska-Curie eligibility criteria Applicants must fulfil the MSCA Doctoral Network eligibility rules: You must not have been awarded a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment Mobility rule: at the time of recruitment, you must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work or studies) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to recruitment (short stays such as holidays are excluded) Please note that, upon appointment, the successful candidate’s post title will be “MSCA Doctoral Network Research Fellow.”
