LANGUAGE EDUCATION INSTITUTE Senior Teaching Fellow / Teaching Fellow / Instructor in Chinese Language / English Language (several posts) About LEI: The Language Education Institute, a new academic unit established on 1 July 2025, formulates policies, designs curricula and delivers teaching activities for the education of languages among students at PolyU, focusing mainly on the Chinese and English languages. LEI strives to become a regional and international leader in language education, particularly in the application of the latest technologies in language learning, teaching and assessment. It drives scholarship and best practices in language education among the PolyU community. LEI comprises the Chinese Language Centre (CLC), English Language Centre (ELC) and Technology-Enhanced Language Education Centre (TELEC), which are constituent units with their own Directors. CLC and ELC offer service language teaching in Chinese and English for all students in the University while TELEC undertakes service language teaching using digital learning platforms and technological tools such as artificial intelligence and immersive technologies. CLC and ELC are committed to excellence in learning and teaching and aim to strengthen students’ language proficiency and communication skills, foster independent and life‑long learning, and support whole‑person development. (B) Embedded Circuits and Packaging Appointees for this track should possess substantial research experience in advanced embedded circuits and electronic packaging technologies. (C) Photonic Quantum Computing Appointees for this track should possess substantial research experience in quantum optics, integrated quantum photonics and photonic quantum computing experiments. EEE prioritizes expertise in quantum light sources and programmable photonic circuits, specifically encouraging those with experience in optical quantum information processing or hardware implementation of quantum algorithms. Teaching Duties: The appointees will be responsible for delivering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels specifically focused on quantum optics, quantum computing, and quantum information processing. (D) Quantum Theory and Algorithms Appointees for this track should possess substantial research experience in quantum optics, photonic quantum computing theory, architectures and quantum error correction. EEE prioritizes expertise in developing architectures for scalable photonic quantum computers and designing quantum machine learning models, specifically encouraging those with experience in practical quantum applications or collaborating closely with experimental teams. Teaching Duties: The appointees will be responsible for delivering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels specifically focused on quantum algorithms and quantum information theory. For all the above tracks, the appointees will also be required to: (a)    undertake teaching duties at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the area of Microelectronics, Photonics, Quantum Physics or Quantum Technology. Beyond these primary areas, the candidate should be prepared to contribute to multidisciplinary subjects across the EEE curriculum; (b)    conduct research that leads to publications in top-tier refereed journals; (c)    attract research fundings and support industrial researches; (d)    supervise student projects and theses; (e)    engage in scholarly research/consultancy in their area of expertise;  (f)     contribute to departmental services and activities; and (g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates. Qualifications Applicants should: (a)    have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline; (b)    have the relevant postdoctoral research experience and a publication record that is commensurate with the level of appointment; (c)    demonstrate excellence in original research and strong fundamental knowledge in one or more of the above-mentioned core research areas; (d)    demonstrate potential to establish significant externally funded research programmes; (e)    be able to demonstrate evidence of effective classroom teaching skills; and (f)     have excellent communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction. Department of Construction Management and Intelligence The Department is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment, which offers a full range of programmes leading to the awards of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science. It has an undergraduate student body of over 600 full-time students and a postgraduate student body of over 300. The Department currently has a total of 30 full-time academic / teaching staff, 20 technical and administrative staff and over 100 research personnel. The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Head of Department of Construction Management and Intelligence. The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold a concurrent headship appointment. The concurrent headship appointment is normally for an aggregate period of six years in two three-year terms of office. Other suitable candidate(s) from the search, if deemed appropriate by the University, may be appointed Chair Professor/Professor if not Head of Department. Job Functions The position calls for a visionary academic leader with responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and successful operation and sustainable development of the Department. Apart from making a significant contribution to most of other academic programmes of the University by providing service teaching, the Department also offers master programmes in Applied Mathematics for Science and Technology, Operational Research and Risk Analysis and Quantitative Finance and FinTech. Starting from 2025/26 academic year, the Department offers a new Bachelor Scheme in Applied Mathematics and Finance Analytics and Fast-track Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes and will launch a new master programme, MSc in Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence Technology in 2026/27. Members of the Department have expertise in applied optimization and optimal control, engineering computation, operational research, management science and applied statistics, FinTech, data science and machine learning. The Department has established Joint Laboratory of Applied Mathematics with the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (JLab), CITIC-PolyU Interdisciplinary Mathematical Digital AI Joint Laboratory (AIJLab) and Mathematical Optimization Innovation Laboratory with Huawei. The appointees are expected to be actively involved in the activities of the Laboratory. Duties The appointees will be required to: (a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; (b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; (c) contribute to departmental service; and (d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department or his delegates. Qualifications Applicants should: (a) have a PhD degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Financial Mathematics / Operations Research / Computational Mathematics / Applied Mathematics or a closely related field with experience in Data Science and Analytics; (b) preferably have at least two years of relevant postdoctoral research experience; (c) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creativity in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field; (d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching; and (e) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
