PRESIDENTIAL YOUNG SCHOLARS SCHEME To boost the leadership and impact of PolyU’s research work in areas of significant societal needs and strategic importance, the Strategic Hiring Scheme (SHS) is introduced to recruit faculty members at all levels. The Presidential Young Scholars Scheme (PYSS) is also established to invite outstanding young scholars to join the University as Assistant Professors and Associate Professors. Applicants for the post of Assistant Professor should have undertaken their PhD and/or postdoctoral research in a world-leading research group, published a significant amount of world-leading research as a main author, and demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in teaching and research.  In addition, those for the post of Associate Professor should have documented scholarly production and professional achievements in teaching and research, developed an international reputation for the impact on their world-leading research, and demonstrated contribution to professional and/or public service. DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY ENGINEERING Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Building Energy (Ref. 260127001) The Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE) contributes to PolyU’s world ranking of 17th for Architecture and Built Environment as well as Civil and Structural Engineering in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. BEEE is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment, and offers a full range of programmes leading to the awards of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Engineering, Master of Science and Bachelor of Engineering. Currently there are over 35 research staff and 201 research students (187 studying for PhD), over 600 full-time / part-time Master’s students, an undergraduate student body of over 250 full-time students. BEEE currently has over 50 full-time academic / teaching staff members engaging in a wide range of research activities organised in the following three themes: Building Energy: Energy issues in buildings addressed in the context of both demand and supply to promote sustainable built environments. Building Environment: Optimisation of buildings and built environments for thermal comfort, indoor air quality, visual / spatial and vibration / acoustic aspects to improve occupant health and productivity. Building Safety and Resilience: Protection of building occupants from hazards such as fire and lightning to improve safety and resilience of communities, buildings and the built environments. BEEE is seeking internationally excellent candidate with exceptional track record of research and scholarship in the theme of Building Energy with preference to candidate demonstrating a strong and individualistic vision of the challenges facing modern urban environments and the opportunities afforded by emerging technologies to address them. Duties The appointee will be required to: (a)    undertake teaching duties at various levels; (b)    supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and theses; (c)    conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the Department’s    research strength; (d)    initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for external research grants and applied research projects; (e)    engage in programme / curriculum planning, administration and development; (f)    provide leadership in developing a programme, a subject discipline or a research programme, etc.; (g)    undertake relevant administrative duties; and (h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates. Qualifications Applicants should: (a)    have a PhD degree in an appropriate related discipline; (b)    have strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills; (d)    have an excellent command of English; (e)    have an excellent record of research and scholarship commensurate with their experience; and (f)    demonstrate good potential in bidding for research grants as well as in establishing significant externally funded research programmes. The applicants should demonstrate strong potential to be internationally prominent through a track record of excellent research and teaching. They will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of degree programmes; teach in engineering design relevant to their technical specialisation; and should have been involved in major research projects relevant to their discipline. While application is open to anyone with an outstanding research and teaching track record in the area of Building Energy, preference will be given to those with a demonstrated track record and expertise in solar and renewable energy in buildings.
