LANGUAGE EDUCATION INSTITUTE Senior Teaching Fellow / Teaching Fellow / Instructor in Chinese Language / English Language (several posts) About LEI: The Language Education Institute, a new academic unit established on 1 July 2025, formulates policies, designs curricula and delivers teaching activities for the education of languages among students at PolyU, focusing mainly on the Chinese and English languages. LEI strives to become a regional and international leader in language education, particularly in the application of the latest technologies in language learning, teaching and assessment. It drives scholarship and best practices in language education among the PolyU community. LEI comprises the Chinese Language Centre (CLC), English Language Centre (ELC) and Technology-Enhanced Language Education Centre (TELEC), which are constituent units with their own Directors. CLC and ELC offer service language teaching in Chinese and English for all students in the University while TELEC undertakes service language teaching using digital learning platforms and technological tools such as artificial intelligence and immersive technologies. CLC and ELC are committed to excellence in learning and teaching and aim to strengthen students’ language proficiency and communication skills, foster independent and life‑long learning, and support whole‑person development. Department of Construction Management and Intelligence The Department is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment, which offers a full range of programmes leading to the awards of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science. It has an undergraduate student body of over 600 full-time students and a postgraduate student body of over 300. The Department currently has a total of 30 full-time academic / teaching staff, 20 technical and administrative staff and over 100 research personnel. The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold a concurrent headship appointment. The concurrent headship appointment is normally for an aggregate period of six years in two three-year terms of office. Other suitable candidate(s) from the search, if deemed appropriate by the University, may be appointed Chair Professor/Professor if not Head of Department. Job Functions The position calls for a visionary academic leader with responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and successful operation and sustainable development of the Department. Qualifications  Applicants should have: (a)    academic qualifications at the doctoral level in closely related disciplines, evidence of eminent scholarship and substantial relevant experience in a senior academic position, and relevant professional qualifications where appropriate; (b)    attainment of an academic rank of full professor or above at an internationally recognised university; (c)    a distinguished international reputation in research and scholarship, and demonstrated leadership in any one or more of the specialist areas of (i) Construction and Real Estate Technology/Management/Economics, (ii) Building Energy, (iii) Urban Sustainability Policy, and (iv) Intelligent Construction; (d)    a strong record in attracting competitive or/and interdisciplinary research funding; (e)    a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching; (f)     a global perspective, proven qualities of academic leadership, and substantial administration / management experience, as well as demonstrated ability of building up a strong team of faculty members with different professional, research and cultural backgrounds;  (g)    effective interpersonal communication and resources management skills, and excellent adaptability to changes and challenges;  (h)    good knowledge of the higher educational environment in the local and global context, and preferably strong industrial experience; and (i)     a high standard of personal integrity. DIVISION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE HUMANITIES Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence and Humanities (two posts) (Ref. 260326010) The Division of Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities (AIH), a constituent academic unit within the Faculty of Humanities, is dedicated to advancing innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence and humanistic inquiry. Positioned at the forefront of emerging technologies, AIH aims to promote the development of human-centred AI that enhances society through ethical, creative, and interdisciplinary approaches. The Master of Science in Generative AI and the Humanities programme, launched in 2024 as the first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong and the world, serves as a flagship initiative of the Division. The programme is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of AI’s impact on language, communication, the arts, and culture, and to prepare them for leadership in an AI-driven future. AIH invites applications for multiple faculty positions across all academic ranks, with a preference for appointments at the Assistant Professor level. We seek applicants who are committed to leading the integration of AI into humanities-focused education, research, and knowledge transfer.
