As tens of thousands of students in England receive their A-level results this week, the annual scramble for university places for those who miss their grades, known as clearing, begins.

After last year’s results day, 345 universities had more than 34,000 courses available through clearing and 57,100 students were accepted on to courses through the clearing process.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings have become one of the most trusted and widely used sources for students all over the world making the most important decision of their lives – who to trust with their education.

The World University Rankings’ top 400 list features 49 UK institutions. Here is a filter of the overall world rankings, showing the top 30 UK universities:
