The University of Leeds is a redbrick university in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire. Officially founded in the early 20th century, the university’s origins can be traced back to the 19th century, when the Yorkshire College of Science was established. It was one of the first colleges in the UK for students of all faiths and backgrounds, set up to challenge the exclusivity of Oxford and Cambridge. Initially the college focussed purely on scientific studies before eventually introducing Classics, History and Modern Literature. This led the Yorkshire College of Science to become the Yorkshire College and in 1904, King Edward VII granted Leeds its own Charter as an independent institution. Today, the University of Leeds is among the Russell Group of research-intensive universities.

It offers over 500 undergraduate and more than 200 postgraduate-degree courses. Leeds is split into nine faculties, they include: Arts, Social Sciences and Law, Engineering, Environment, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Medicine and Health and Performance and Visual Arts. With over 30,000 students – 5,000 of them international, from more than 100 countries – the university prides itself on being a multicultural and international institution.Its partnership with Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, China was the first overseas school to be set up by the University of Leeds and offers students a unique UK-Chinese engineering curriculum. The university is located on a single-site campus, just a short walk from Leeds’ vibrant city centre, with access to art galleries, museums, shopping and sports facilities, as well as green spaces. Leeds University Union offers over 250 clubs and societies and its students' union was the first in the UK to be awarded ‘excellent’ status by the National Union of Students (NUS) as part of its Quality Students' Unions accreditation scheme. A recent £520m has been invested into transforming its campus, which includes state-of-the-art sport and well-being facilities, a 25m eight lane swimming pool and the largest fitness suite of any UK university
Leeds alumni include the late historian Herbert Read, the singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae, and the astronaut Piers Sellers.

The role We are seeking an outstanding Clinical Research Training Fellow to help spearhead the development and clinical testing of a novel non-invasive brain stimulation sleep therapy for Alzheimer’s disease. The project is funded by the Medical Research Council and will be conducted at the UK Dementia Research Institute Centres at the University of Surrey and Imperial College London  The successful applicant will, together with other team members, be responsible for recruiting individuals with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease to the study and for administering non-invasive brain stimulation (phase-locked TI electric fields and audio), electroencephalography (EEG), and cognitive paradigms during wakefulness and sleep. The successful applicant will also work alongside other team members to examine patients’ responses by analysing EEG and behavioural data.  Candidates are expected to hold a medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) and be fully registered with the GMC, have experience working with patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia, and have knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures The successful applicant will be clinically mentored by Chris Butler (the project’s clinical lead) and will be an active member in Derk-Jan Dijk's (University of Surrey) and Nir Grossman's (Imperial College) research groups. You will be expected to collaborate closely with researchers across the groups at Imperial College London, the University of Surrey, King’s University, and with the broader worldwide network of collaborators.  About you Crucial skills include prior experience working with patients, particularly those with dementia or other cognitive disorders. Desirable skills include experience in assessing cognitive function using standardised and experimental tasks, conducting non-invasive brain stimulation and/or EEG recording procedures, and analysing EEG data. The Lipid Metabolism and Neurochemistry research team is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to a research program investigating why humans lose myelin with ageing and how this sensitizes us to neurodegenerative diseases of ageing. This is a molecular and cellular research project that is expected to generate new insights into brain metabolism, how glial cells and neurons communicate, and how these processes break down in the ageing brain. You will work in one of the leading research teams in brain metabolism, supervised by Prof Anthony Don. This position will be based at the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre, an outstanding collaborative research environment. We are seeking a certified Power Electrical Engineer to design, analyse, and operate high-power and high-voltage electrical systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation across our facilities. The candicate will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and research team members to manage and execute the project, ensuring that all deliverables are successfully achieved. Key Competencies Design and review high-power electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, and protection schemes Perform power system studies such as load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination Operate and control high-power or high-voltage equipment Lead testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems Ensure compliance with electrical safety rules, standards, and regulatory requirements Support maintenance planning, reliability improvement, and asset management Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment The employee is to communicate with any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.
