Loughborough climbed four places to reach seventh place, while UCL jumped three places to 10th.
Despite these movements, overall there is stability at the top of the list, with the leading five universities unchanged since last year. The University of Cambridge takes the crown for the sixth year in a row.
The ranking, which includes 127 institutions, is based on 10 measures: student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, entry standards, student-to-staff ratio, spending on academic services, spending on student facilities, good honours degrees achieved, graduate prospects and completion.
Below is a list of the top 20 institutions in the Complete University Guide's 2017 university league table. It includes links to the profiles of those institutions also featured in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016.
