Graduate employability: top universities in Germany ranked by employers 2018

Universities producing the most employable graduates have been ranked by companies around the world in the Global University Employability Ranking 2018

In total, 15 German universities appear in the Global University Employability Ranking 2018, designed by HR consultancy Emerging and published exclusively by Times Higher Education. The ranking reveals which universities recruiters at top companies think are the best at preparing students for the workplace.

The Technical University of Munich is Germany’s best university for employability. Only one of the top five universities are in Berlin, with the top two in Munich and the others located in Heidelberg and Frankfurt.

Top three universities in Germany for graduate employability

1. Technical University of Munich

Germany’s top university for employability refers to itself as “the entrepreneurial university” because of its emphasis on and close relationships with industry.

Many academics also have positions in companies such as BMW and Siemens, and students undertake research projects with employers in the area.

The Technical University of Munich offers 172 degree programmes across 14 departments. Each year scientists from the university create more than 100 inventions with industrial and commercial applications.

2. LMU Munich

LMU Munich is the sixth-oldest university in Germany that has been continuously operating and is the second-largest university in terms of student population.

The university is made up of 18 faculties including law, economics, medicine and social sciences.

The university attracts a high percentage of exchange and international students. There are many resources in the city that students can take advantage of, such as the Max Planck Society and numerous global enterprises and start-ups.

3. Heidelberg University

Heidelberg University is the oldest university in Germany, having been founded in 1386. 

The Owen Centre helps students with careers advice before they graduate and is open to alumni seeking new jobs or those who have job opportunities to share.

Eleven professors at Heidelberg have been awarded a Nobel Prize since the award was established in 1901.
