The scholar Karl Karmarsch founded Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH)  in 1831. It started with just 64 students. 

As one of the first science and technology institutes in Germany, LUH continues to raise its international profile. The university is a member of T9, the association of the oldest and biggest technical higher education institutions in Germany, and CESAER, a consortium of the most dominant European engineering schools. 

Since 2006, the institute, which was established as the Higher Trade School of Hannover, has carried the name of the German mathematician and philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, discoverer of the law of continuity and the transcendental law of homogeneity. 

The institution prides itself for offering more than 190 competitive full-time and part-time degree programs. Its research activities are conducted in 13 faculties. They cover a wide array of subjects such as architecture and landscape sciences; civil engineering and geodesy; economics and management; humanities and law. 

The university invests extensively in the establishment of cutting-edge facilities such as internationally recognised research hub Hannover Centre for Production Technology, which is a meeting point for production engineers from all over the world. 

LUH also boasts a large collection on publications in its library. This includes originals of valuable technical and scientific journals that were successfully preserved during the Second World War. 

Some of the university affiliates are German economist Erich Gutenberg, engineer Walter Brush and mathematician Carl Adam Petri. The institute follows the motto "Shaping the Future with Knowledge”.

Description The research group of Prof. Ingyin Zaw at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to add a Research Scientist in Extragalactic Astronomy to study the impact Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) have on their host galaxies. Applicants with a background analyzing and interpreting astrophysical data, in particular the statistical analysis of data obtained by large surveys, are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include competitive salary and benefits. Research in the Prof. Zaw’s group focuses AGN activity and feedback which are critical components of current theories of galaxy evolution. Project include collaborations with researchers in Physics program and Center for Astrophysics and Space Science (CASS) at NYU Abu Dhabi, as well as researchers at the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics (CCPP) at NYU New York. Researchers are NYUAD have access to numerous high performance computing facilities, as well as access to sponsored time on several observing facilitates. Responsibilities of the position include using advanced statistical and Machine Learning techniques to study AGN properties, galaxy properties, and the relationships between them in large samples of galaxies, as well as participating in other research activities of the group. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree, or equivalent, in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics or related field, and at least 6 years of research experience (Excluding the years taken to complete their PhD). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience analyzing and interpreting astrophysical data – especially that obtained from larger surveys, and strong computational skills. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and interest in using advanced statistical / machine learning techniques to study the correlation between variables. Description The Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit Research Scientist to work on advanced sustainable functionalized membranes for desalination and water treatment, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering. The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on developing functionalized membrane materials to tailor sustainable antifouling hybrid ultrafiltration membranes and antibacterial nanofiltration or reverse osmosis membranes for desalination and water purification. The candidate will explore advanced membrane fabrication techniques and characterization tools (SEM, AFM, Raman, TEM, DSC, XRD, FTIR, TGA, BET, etc.) to correlate fabrication-structure-property-performance of novel nanomaterials with sustainable membranes for desalination and water purification via separation processes. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will manage the project and work closely with postdoctoral researchers, establish deep technical knowledge, and develop transferable skills. He/she will actively be involved in developing novel concepts and writing research proposals. He/she will work on solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing progress reports, authoring peer-reviewed publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at national and international conferences. The successful candidate will have to demonstrate his expertise in assessing antibacterial and antibiofouling properties of nanomaterials, membrane fabrications, sewage water treatment, life cycle assessment, and separation processes. He/she will be detail-oriented and well-organized and will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants must have a PhD in materials science and engineering, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field, along with at least 6 years of relevant post-PhD research experience along with extensive research and publication in well-known journals and conference papers or similar research accomplishments. Analytical characterization skills and excellent experimental expertise relevant to assessing the antibacterial and antibiofouling properties of diversified sustainable membranes are required. Candidates with a history of peer-reviewed publications in a related research area and prior expertise in materials science, environmental chemistry, and water treatment will be preferred. This position will begin in September 2026 as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance.
