Brian Follett, chair of the Arts and Humanities Research Board and professor of zoology at Oxford University, has been named chair to the Teacher Training Agency.

Richard Halliwell, former dean of the Royal School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh, has been elected president of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Graham Zellick, vice-chancellor of the University of London, has been appointed chairman of the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Universities UK has announced the following appointments for the period August 1 2003 to July 31 2004: chair of the England and Northern Ireland Council: Geoffrey Copland, University of Westminster. Members of the UK board will include: chair of board and UUK president: Ivor Crewe, University of Essex; vice-presidents: Tony Chapman, University of Wales Institute; Bill Stevely, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen; Geoffrey Copland; treasurer: John Tarrant, University of Huddersfield.
