About the Role

The School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne is excited to offer an opportunity for a Research Fellow specialising in coastal processes, hydrodynamics, and sediment transport numerical modelling. You will join Dr. Rebecca Morris on an ARC-funded project aimed at enhancing hybrid mangrove living shorelines for coastal protection. This role involves work in numerical modelling, field experimentation, and wave flume studies, and offers the chance to collaborate with a diverse team of researchers, postgraduate students, and industry partners.

Your responsibilities will include:


	In collaboration with Senior Academic staff conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals
	Contribute to and publish academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne
	Contribute to the preparation, or where appropriate individual preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies as relevant.
	Active participation in research seminars, and national and international conferences


Who We Are Looking For

You will have a demonstrated passion for research, an aptitude for independent work, and a solid publication record in relevant fields, commensurate with experience. Additionally, you will have a proven track record in numerical modelling of coastal sediment transport and morphodynamic processes.

You will also have:


	Completion (or near completion) of a PhD in coastal hydrodynamics or engineering or marine science, or equivalent qualification
	A research track record relevant to understanding and predicting coastal processes, including expertise in numerical modelling of coastal hydrodynamics (using codes such as SWAN, XBeach or SWASH), as evidenced by high-quality research publications in journals, conferences, technical reports, or other scholarly publications.
	Advanced expertise in analysis of coastal datasets using scientific programming languages such as Python or Matlab.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a Faculty of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHaPS) Professional Services (PS) team and we are looking to appoint a highly efficient Business Operations Officer (Maternity Cover) to support administrative duties within the HR & Finance Cluster.

The role holder will work closely with the Senior Business Support Officer and Senior Business Manager to deliver support to the four Departments. We have a small, busy but friendly team that are working to strengthen the partnership between academics, researchers and professional services across the School, Faculty and University. The team were formed late last year as part of a faculty-wide reshaping and have already started to build strong working relationships across the school, faculty and our colleagues within the central directorate teams. The post holder will be key to maintaining and building on these existing relationships.

The role would suit someone who is able to effectively manage competing priorities, pay good attention to detail and has a willingness and the ability to effectively communicate to a range of stakeholders. We will provide training on the various internal systems that will enable the successful candidate to work proactively and independently to complete tasks. The role will provide a wide variety of experience and skills to the post holder and provide opportunities for personal development through working across HR & Finance administration as part of the overall operational management for the large and complex School. As a commitment to this, the successful post holder can spend up to 15% of their time contributing to their personal development and participating in cross Faculty / University initiatives (in discussion with line manager).

This is a hybrid role, and the post holder is expected to be on campus minimum 2 days per week. While individuals are designated primarily to a certain building/campus, the post holder will need to work across multiple buildings (Denmark Hill Campus and Guy’s Campus) and should remain flexible when asked to spend more than 2 days on any of our campuses.

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) on a fixed term contract for up to 12 months (maternity cover)

About you

About the job

The Centre for Geophysical Forecasting (CGF) at NTNU has a vacancy for a Post doc position in the field of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). CGF is a centre for research-driven innovation and is funded by the research council of Norway and industry partners. Our goal is to become a world-leading research and innovation hub for geophysical sciences, creating innovative new products and services in earth sensing and forecasting domains. Novel use of geophysical sensing data is an important part of this research and will be applied here to improve our understanding of the earth’s near surface. The candidate will research in areas with applications to the Energy Transition. The research will be both technically and financially supported by one of our industry partners  Shearwater GeoServices (Shearwater).

The overall research goal for this Post doc position is to gain insights into how distributed acoustic sensing can be used in novel 3D subsurface imaging and seismic analysis applications - with a focus on CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) monitoring and offshore windfarm geotechnical assessments. Up to now most work has been done on passive recording of DAS-data and active source acquisitions have been dominated by vertical seismic profiling in boreholes. More recently seafloor DAS acquisitions have been performed, but only a few experiments so far, with most focusing on traditional reflection-based seismic processing and imaging. With the Post doc position we intend to go beyond conventional reflection-based acquisition and processing, and explore possibilities and limitations for surface or seafloor DAS-acquisition and especially how this can be extended into novel 3D subsurface imaging or characterization tools. The research will include new ways of combining information from passive and active data, as well as investigate state-of-the full-waveform-based approaches to infer subsurface model information from such data.

The immediate leader is Head of Department.

Duties of the position


	The candidate will mainly work on innovative research in the field of distributed acoustic sensing and its applications to 3D mapping of the near subsurface.
	The candidate will work at the CGF premises at NTNU in Trondheim as part of our team of leading researchers, interacting closely with industry partners and research institutes, and developing innovative concepts.
	The candidate will present ongoing research at key national and international seminars and conferences.


Required selection criteria


	Candidates must have a relevant background in physics and mathematics with a good grounding in geophysics, remote sensing and data analysis.
	Candidates must have a Master’s degree in geophysics, mathematics signal processing or physics, and a PhD in similar topics.
	Applicants who are not fluent in a Scandinavian language must document a thorough knowledge of English (equivalent to a TOEFL score of 600 or more).
	The appointments are to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, PostDoc and research assistant


If you can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation. Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position.

Preferred selection criteria


	Candidates also need to show a keen interest in multidisciplinary scientific research and innovation. 
	Some knowledge of various sensing methods will be an advantage
	Good knowledge in scientific programming is very useful.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. The digitalization of Norway is impossible without electronic systems. We are Norway’s leading academic environment in this field, and contribute with our expertise in areas ranging from nanoelectronics, phototonics, signal processing, radio technology and acoustics to satellite technology and autonomous systems. Knowledge of electronic systems is also vital for addressing important challenges in transport, energy, the environment, and health. The Department of Electronic Systems is one of seven departments in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering .
