Tim Clark, pro-rector (educational quality) and professor of pulmonary medicine at Imperial College will be its first provost at Wye. He will take up the post following the formal merger of Wye College and Imperial in August.

Jon Burch, director general, aircraft, for the Royal Navy, has been appointed executive secretary of The Royal Academy of Engineering. He will take over in May on the retirement of John Appleton.

Robert Fildes, associate dean for research at Lancaster University Management School, has become president of the International Institute of Forecasters. He succeeds Michael Lawrence, University of New South Wales.

David Jabbari, director of professional development at Bird & Bird, has been appointed director of professional development at the College of Law. He succeeds Alan Pannett in February and will also be Bird & Bird professor of legal education and training at the college.

De Montfort University has made the following appointments: Denis Anthony, former lecturer in nursing at University of Birmingham, to professor of nursing informatics; Norman Blake, former professor of English language at the University of Sheffield, to professor in the Centre for Technology and the Arts; Mike Boarder, former professor in the department of cell physiology and pharmacology at University of Leicester, to head of the department of biological sciences; Bob Chaudhuri, former research manager at Novartis International, Switzerland, to professor of cancer studies; Louise Fitzgerald, former professor of organisational development at City University, to professor of organisational behaviour; Leigh Landy, former head, department of contemporary arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, to professor of contemporary music; Christopher Maggs, former professor of nursing at Staffordshire University, to professor of nursing practice and development; Mike Noon, former senior research fellow at Cardiff Business School, to professor of human resource management; Monder Ram, former professor of small business at the University of Central England, to similar in the department of corporate strategy.

Jan Bebbington, senior lecturer in accounting, University of Dundee, has been made chair in accountancy at the University of Aberdeen.
