John Glascock , former Oliver T. Carr professor at George Washington University, has been appointed Grosvenor professor of real estate finance in the department of land economy at the University of Cambridge.

Sheila Corrall , director of academic services at the University of Southampton, has been appointed professor of librarianship and information management at the University of Sheffield.

Alan Carr , honorary treasurer of the strategic planning sub-committee of the Association of University Teachers, will replace Alan Waton as the union's national honorary treasurer.

The Rothermere American Institute has appointed: Paul Giles , reader in American literature, University of Oxford, its director. He is vice-president of the International American Studies Association; Joel H. Silbey , President White professor of history at Cornell University, New York, the annual visiting professorship (Harold Vyvyan Harmsworth professor of American history) for 2004-05. He will be a fellow of Queen's College.

Kevin Roberts , chief executive officer worldwide of Saatchi & Saatchi, has been appointed joint professor at the University of Limerick and New Zealand's University of Waikato. Professor Roberts also holds the post of CEO-in-residence at Cambridge University's Judge Institute of Management.

Stephen Denyer , head of the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences and professor of pharmaceutical and applied microbiology at the University of Brighton, has been appointed head of the Welsh School of Pharmacy at Cardiff University.
