Michael Grade, chief executive of First Leisure Corporation and former chief executive of Channel Four, is to hold the first chair of television production at the National Film and Television School. The chair was created in honour of his uncle, film magnate Lew Grade.

Sir Tim Lankester, director of the School of Oriental and African Studies, has been elected president of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He succeeds Sir Keith Thomas.

John Raftery, professor of real estate and construction economics at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, has been appointed head of the school of architecture at Oxford Brookes University.

Tony Davis, associate professor in organic chemistry at Trinity College, Dublin, has been appointed to a chair in supramolecular chemistry at the University of Bristol.

Varinder Aggarwal, professor of chemistry at the University of Sheffield, also joins Bristol in September, when he takes up a chair in synthetic organic chemistry.

Bhuphinder Sandhu, consultant paediatrician and head of the gastroenterology and nutrition department at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and Institute for Child Health at the University of Bristol, has been made a visiting professor in health and social care at the University of the West of England.

Sir Christopher Benson, chairman of Albright and Wilson, has been appointed acting principal of the Inns of Court School of Law, replacing Richard Stone, who will leave in the next academic year.
