This position will immerse the appointees in both academic research and teaching in the multi-disciplinary team of the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies (https://www.socsc.hku.hk/rhps/) within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Duties and Responsibilities The appointees will be primarily responsible for the following: Involve in on-going research projects of the Population Hub Draft proposals, reports, and presentations relevant to the projects Perform advanced quantitative data analysis Publish high-quality academic papers in peer-reviewed journals Mentor junior research staff Teach one undergraduate or taught postgraduate course per year, if required; and Support and perform other duties as assigned Requirements The appointees are expected to have: A Ph.D. degree in the Social Sciences, Sociology, Demography, Statistics, Public Health, Social Work, or a relevant discipline A strong quantitative background and extensive experience in managing and analysing large and complex datasets; expertise in Computational Social Science and proficiency in longitudinal analyses, multilevel modelling, data visualisation, and state-of-the-art statistical models would be an advantage The ability to develop a strong body of high-quality publications in scholarly journals with global impact The ability to multitask and work under tight schedules to meet project deadlines The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team A strong commitment to teaching and training activities in the Population Hub and the Faculty A strong sense of self-motivation, responsibility, and work ethics Good analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills What We Offer A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits, with a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Job Description:  We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to join our team for a fixed-term project. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and validating objective texture testing methods that can accurately categorize foods within the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework, with a specific focus on Level 5 (Minced & Moist). This role will involve designing custom test fixtures, conducting practical laboratory work, and performing data analysis to create a robust and reliable testing protocol. Key Responsbilities: Conduct a comprehensive literature review on food rheology, texture analysis, particle analysis, image analysis and the IDDSI framework. Design and execute experiments to develop new instrumental texture analysis methods suitable for IDDSI Level 5 foods. Validate new methods against existing standards and a sensory panel to ensure accuracy and clinical relevance. Collect, analyze, and interpret data from instrumental and sensory evaluations. Document all experimental procedures, findings, and analyses in technical reports and prepare presentations to industry stakeholders and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborate with a research team, including food scientists, clinicians, and engineers, to ensure the developed methods are practical and clinically relevant. Job Requirements: A degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. in a related research field is advantageous. Experience with instrumental texture, image analysis and particle sizing techniques (e.g., texture analyzers, universal testing machines) is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in material characterization techniques, such as stress-strain characterization. Proficiency in analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, R, or other statistical software). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated commitment to strong research ethics and data integrity

The Faculty of Medicine wishes to appoint an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer, hosted by one of the following clinical specialties: Ophthalmology, Respiratory or Paediatrics. The post is intended for an applicant within any of these three specialities, with the speciality of the final (single) post dependent on the successful applicant.  The post-holder will be pursuing their development of research and teaching within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton.  In this post-doctoral role, the successful candidate will be in specialist clinical training at ST3 level or above and have substantial experience of the relevant research areas, a proven track record of high-quality original research publications, the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary, multi-professional team and hold a corresponding NTN.  You will join the NIHR Clinical Integrated Academic Training Programme at the University of Southampton, as an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer. The post-holder will also have clinical commitments at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust that will lead to the acquisition of clinical skills required for full registration within the specialty.
