Higher education appointments

University of Bournemouth

Suzanne Clarke , former financial director at TMS Ltd., has been appointed school finance and resources manager for service industries.

Jacqueline Molnar , former head of finance and administration at Mountbatten School, has been appointed school finance and resources manager for DEC.

Paul Driscoll , part-time minister at a Baptist Church in Poole, has been appointed free church chaplain as part of the university's chaplaincy team.


Canterbury Christchurch University College

The following deans have been appointed from September 2001:

Arts and humanities : Hilary Fraser , currently professor of English at the University of Western Australia and this academic year a visiting fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge.

Business and sciences : Keith Gwilym , fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications, member of the British Computer Society and a member of the college's governing body.

Health : Margaret Andrews , currently head of the school of health and community studies at North East Wales Institute, and a member of the board of governors of the Royal College of Nursing Institute.

Education : Margaret Alfrey , the current dean, will continue to lead that faculty.

Susan Baines
, former administrator at the University of Cambridge has been appointed administrative officer in the department of mathematics.

Derek Brown , former estates surveyor for Everards Brewery, property services surveyor in the department of hospitality services.

Martin Ellison , former visiting scholar at the Bank of Finland, lecturer in the department of economics

Peter Farrell , former consultant for SDRC UK, principal teaching fellow in the school of engineering.

Stavros Garoufalidis , former assistant professor at George Institute of Technology, lecturer in the department of mathematics.

Maggie Harris , former programme leader at Thames Valley University, administrator in Warwick business school.

Brenda Porter , former director of accounting research at Cranfield University, readership in accounts in Warwick business school.

Ann Priestley , former information manager for Crucible Multimedia, information resources developer in the school of law.

Oliver Sothcott , former group leader for Timken Research Europe, principal teaching fellow in the school of engineering.

Robert Spooner , former postdoctoral scientist at the Institute of Cancer Research, research fellow in the dept. of biological sciences.


University of Melbourne

Simon During
, professor in English and former senior research fellow at Princeton University, and Roger Scott , professor of fine arts, classics and archaeology have been elected fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.

Ian Britain , guest editor of Island and founding editor of Webbers , has been appointed editor of Meanjin from August 2001. The magazine is a wholly owned subsidiary of the university.
