University College Worcester has appointed: Howard Cox , professor of international business history and co-director of the Centre for International Business Studies at London South Bank University, head of the graduate school; Lorraine Gaytten , former cost research manager with Davis, Langdon and Everest, head of the International Centre; and Anne Campbell, former director of the Open Language Programme at London Metropolitan University, director of the Language Unit.

Stephen Smith , professor of obstetrics and gynaecology and head of department at the University of Cambridge and Rosie Hospital, has been appointed executive dean of medicine at the University of Glasgow.

The Royal Northern College of Music has awarded the following fellowships: Louis Andriessen , Dutch composer; Gavin Henderson , principal of Trinity College of Music; Wen Zhou Li , tutor at Chetham's School of Music; and Graham Vick , opera director.

Brian Thomas , research director for the Crop Improvement and Biotechnology Research Theme, has been appointed acting head of department at the University of Warwick's Horticulture Research Institute.

David Morgans has been appointed associate dean of the School of Social Studies at the University of Wales College, Newport.

John Sharples , executive director of Carillion, has been appointed chairman of the board of governors at the University of Wolverhampton.

Eddy Liew , head of immunology, infection and inflammation at Glasgow, has been elected president of the European Federation of Immunological Societies.
