Alexander Knysh, associate professor of Islamic studies at the University of Michigan, Sharjah chair of Islamic studies in the department of Arabic and Middle East studies, will take up his appointment on May 1; Brian Sheldon, professor of social administration at Royal Holloway, London, professorial director of the new social services research centre from April 14; Douglas Stead, professor of geological engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, chair of geotechnical engineering, Camborne School of Mines, from January 1.
