B1 lit. b (postdoc) Reference no.: 5781 The new Core Facility NexusSoSci is being established at the Faculty of Social Sciences. NexusSoSci provides the infrastructural and technical foundations for a central service and competence center for social science research. It brings together qualitative and quantitative methodological expertise in data collection, data preparation, and data analysis. Senior scientists and the coordinator play a key role in developing the digital, material, and spatial infrastructures that supports research projects, training, and networking activities. The positions will initially be based at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences and may be transferred to a subunit following a positive evaluation. We intend to fill the position of Senior Scientist for the Register Data Lab from 01 July 2026 onwards, but latest by 15 October 2026. Your personal sphere of play: The Register Data Lab within NexusSoSci, creates the infrastructural, methodological and technical foundations for the use of Austrian register data in social science research. Its aim is to build a central scientific service and competence centre for register-based social research. The Senior Scientist will make a substantial contribution to this objective through (1) the development of standardised data modules, (2) scientific consulting in the planning of research projects, and (3) training and networking activities. The role This is an exciting opportunity to join i-MOBYL, a European consortium project exploring how young adolescents (aged 11-15 years) can be empowered to travel more actively, independently, and sustainably in their everyday lives. This Research Fellow role is offered at 0.8 FTE for two years. Working with Dr. Eleanor Ratcliffe and an international consortium of academics, practitioners, and community partners, you will: Coordinate a Living Lab based in north-west Guildford, with a local secondary school and municipal partner; and Lead mixed-methods research to assess the acceptability, feasibility, and potential impacts of mobility interventions. The role combines community engagement and co-design, data collection and analysis, collaboration with local and international stakeholders, and the dissemination of findings through academic and non-academic outputs. You will be working with project partners across the Netherlands, France, Austria, Switzerland, and the UK. As a postdoctoral researcher you will join Surrey's Environmental Psychology Research Group (EPRG), an internationally-renowned centre for teaching and research on environmental psychology that has been active since the 1970s. The EPRG provides a supportive and dynamic setting for the professional development of early-career researchers, and the opportunity to collaborate with world leaders in environmental psychology. Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. In the process, research engineers gain valuable applied research capabilities aligned with evolving industry needs. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Conduct reviews on sustainability literature, frameworks and assessment tools for both generic industry-wide and industry-specific applications, such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental impact assessments, energy analysis and resource optimization studies Develop sustainability solution road mapping and development framework to supports identification and follow-through of sustainability solutions for organizational green transition. Your personal sphere of play: The Institute of Biological Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry is seeking a Senior Scientist to work on the synthesis of microbial natural products in the Microbial Biochemistry research group, Böttcher laboratory. The position is initially limited to 4 years, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent position. In our research group, we develop chemical strategies for the tailored control of bacterial behavior with the goal of controlling the growth and pathogenic properties of certain microorganisms as well as their interactions within the human microbiome. We also investigate the chemical interactions between commensal and pathogenic bacteria as well as the chemistry of microbe-human interactions, and strive to exploit the potential of the natural products arising from these interactions through synthetic chemistry. We focus primarily on new anti-infective compounds that, for example, inhibit the production of toxins by pathogenic bacteria or, as highly selective antibiotics, inhibit the growth of only specific bacterial species. Our vision is to develop tailored chemical tools for precision interventions in the human microbiome, thereby laying the groundwork for chemical microbiome engineering in the future.
