Bolton University has appointed Carole Truman professor of health and community studies. She was previously director of research training in arts and social sciences at Lancaster University.

* Helen Stone has been named curator of the Sidney Cooper Gallery at Kent Institute of Art and Design. She was art and technology technician.

* Gill Nicholls , director of the King's College London Institute of Learning and Teaching, has been appointed pro vice-chancellor for student experience at Durham University.

* Leon Rubin , professor of drama and theatre arts at Middlesex University, has been appointed director of the East 15 Acting School, Essex University.

* Napier University has appointed Kevin Cullinan director of the Transport Research Institute. He was chair in marine transport and management at Newcastle University.

* Northampton University has appointed Chris Moore , former acting executive dean of health at Sheffield Hallam University, dean of social science.

* Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College has appointed: Derek Godfrey of Coventry University deputy director (operations); and Jill Grinstead , former registrar at London Guildhall University, university college secretary and clerk to the council.

* Kathy Sykes , professor of sciences and society at Bristol University, will join the board of trustees at the National Endowment.

* Ulster University has appointed Ernest Adams , a games consultant, visiting professor in the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems.
