* The Higher Education Academy has appointed as senior associates: Michael Bradford , professor and associate vice-president at Manchester University, to work on the Change Academy and academic leadership; Linda Challis , professor, formerly deputy vice-chancellor and deputy chief executive at Oxford Brookes University, to work in quality management, academic leadership and the Change Academy; Barry Jackson , professor and director of the School of Lifelong Learning and Education at Middlesex University, to specialise in quality management and assessment; Paul Luker , professor and pro vice-chancellor at Bournemouth University, to work on quality management and internationalisation; Chris Park , professor and director of the graduate school at Lancaster University, to advance postgraduate work; and Graeme Roberts , professor and former vice-principal of teaching and learning at Aberdeen University, to work with the HEA in Scotland.

* Glasgow University has awarded Penny Enslin , professor of philosophy of education at Witwatersrand University, a chair in education from August 1.

* The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff has appointed: Paul Thomas , dean of Cardiff School of Education; Maureen Bowen , dean of Cardiff School of Health Sciences; Dave Cobner , dean of Cardiff School of Sports; Colleen Connor , dean of learning and teaching; David Ellis , dean of students; Pam Harris, dean of quality and standards; Alan Lewis , dean of research and director of product design and research; Daniel O'Leary , dean of graduate students; John Phillips , dean of international students; and Peter Treadwell , dean of development and participation.
