The University of Bradford has appointed Diana Anderson and Val Randall of the department of biological sciences to professorships.

John Campbell , fellow of New College, Oxford , has been appointed to the new Wilde professorship of mental philosophy.

David Currie , deputy dean at the London Business School, has been appointed dean of City University Business School .

Thames Valley University has appointed Martin Caraher a reader in food and social policy and Jeremy Gardiner professor of digital arts.

The University of Warwick has appointed: Gregory Challis , formerly at the John Innes Centre, to lecturer in the chemistry department; Jonathan Duffy , formerly of the University of Bristol, to lecturer in the physics department; Bhasakar Dutta , formerly at the Indian Statistical Unit, to professor in the department of economics; Gerd-Rainer Horn , of Huddersfield University, to lecturer in the department of history; Kevin Lee , of Pfizer Global Research and Development, to senior lecturer in molecular physiology in the department of biological sciences; Robert Newton , of Imperial College, London, to lecturer in molecular physiology in the department of biological sciences; Oleg Petrenko , of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, to lecturer in the department of physics; and Friederike Schlaghecken , of Birkbeck College, London, to lecturer in the department of psychology.

Ian Diamond , professor of social statistics and dean of social sciences at the University of Southampton , has been appointed deputy vice-chan-cellor.

Peter Hymans has been appointed director of higher education for Doncaster College .

Berry Mayall has become professor of childhood studies at the Institute of Education, University of London .

Anne Murdoch , deputy principal of Farnborough College of Technology, has been appointed principal of Newbury College .

Titus Oshagbemi of Queen's University, Belfast, has become a visiting research fellow at the Leadership Trust Foundation in Ross-on-Wye.

Alice Rawsthorn of The Financial Times has been appointed director of the Design Museum in London.

Margaret Talbot , head of sport and Carnegie professor at Leeds Metropolitan University, has been appointed chief executive of the Central Council of Physical Recreation , the umbrella organisation for national governing bodies of sport.
