The University of Bradford officially became a university in 1966, but can trace its origins back to the establishment of the industrial West Yorkshire town’s Mechanics Institute in 1832.

Students from some 150 countries study at the university, and about a third of its undergraduates are mature students.

The University of Bradford was the first higher education institution in the UK to open a modern business school and the first outside London to offer part-time degrees.

It was also the first British university to open a Department of Peace Studies, in 1973, and Bradford now boasts the largest higher education centre for the study of conflict resolution and peace in the world.

The institution’s first chancellor Harold WIlson, a former UK prime minister, said of the university: "You can be confident of your university developing in the future with the same dynamism as has been shown in the past – educating men and women who receive education and training relevant to the needs of our changing society."

To this day, the University of Bradford aims to develop courses and curricula that reflect the requirements of the modern world. It has partner institutions in countries across the world, including the Philippines, India, Tanzania and Hong Kong.

The university is undergoing an £84 million redevelopment programme, which will include a new dedicated student area to be known as Student Central, featuring study spaces, bars and other social areas.

Former Bradford students include mobile telecommunications entrepreneur Mo Ibrahim; poet John Hegley; and former UK government minister Ann Taylor.

Doctoral Researchers (30 positions) in various disciplines at the University of Helsinki, Finland The University of Helsinki Doctoral School (UHDS) invites applications for 30 salaried doctoral researcher positions in various disciplines. The positions are four‑year fixed‑term, full‑time employment contracts, starting between 1 January and 31 March 2027. The positions are part of an international, interdisciplinary RESDOC doctoral training project, co‑funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND scheme and the University of Helsinki. About the position Doctoral researchers will: Conduct full‑time doctoral research leading to the completion of a PhD degree Be enrolled in one of the 14 doctoral programmes of the University of Helsinki corresponding to their research field Work as part of an international and multidisciplinary RESDOC doctoral training project Receive academic supervision from leading researchers in their respective fields Research includes temporary secondments or research visits outside the University of Helsinki in RESDOC associated partner organizations when separately agreed. More specifically, the PM will work collaboratively across RMIT as a global University, and with RMIT’s industry, government, community and University partners, to achieve partnership-enabled growth. The PM will have oversight of the Bachelor of Psychology program (including Honours program) at RMIT Vietnam and be responsible for providing original, innovative, and distinguished contributions to the Program for maintaining and advancing their scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities at a national and international levels. The PM will involve providing leadership and direction to Course Co-ordinators teaching into the program and ensuring a coherent and effective program-approach to learning and teaching. The PM will facilitate the ongoing development of teaching materials and regularly monitor and improve program performance. About You You are an internationally recognised genomics researcher and academic leader with a distinguished track record of delivering high-impact research and securing substantial competitive funding.
