Basic information and contact details for the University of Bradford
The University of Bradford officially became a university in 1966, but can trace its origins back to the establishment of the industrial West Yorkshire town’s Mechanics Institute in 1832.
Students from some 150 countries study at the university, and about a third of its undergraduates are mature students.
The University of Bradford was the first higher education institution in the UK to open a modern business school and the first outside London to offer part-time degrees.
It was also the first British university to open a Department of Peace Studies, in 1973, and Bradford now boasts the largest higher education centre for the study of conflict resolution and peace in the world.
The institution’s first chancellor Harold WIlson, a former UK prime minister, said of the university: "You can be confident of your university developing in the future with the same dynamism as has been shown in the past – educating men and women who receive education and training relevant to the needs of our changing society."
To this day, the University of Bradford aims to develop courses and curricula that reflect the requirements of the modern world. It has partner institutions in countries across the world, including the Philippines, India, Tanzania and Hong Kong.
The university is undergoing an £84 million redevelopment programme, which will include a new dedicated student area to be known as Student Central, featuring study spaces, bars and other social areas.
Former Bradford students include mobile telecommunications entrepreneur Mo Ibrahim; poet John Hegley; and former UK government minister Ann Taylor.

Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to develop an onboard microgrid simulation model with energy management. Work with research team to deliver the work scope and undertake these responsibilities in the project. Work Responsibilities: Develop a detailed electrical model of the e-vessel microgrid (power system) based on the concept design in a simulation environment such as Matlab/Simulink. Design and develop an intelligent energy management system for the e-vessel microgrid for coordinated control of multiple energy sources considering cost, carbon, and operation constraints. Operate the simulated electrical model on a real-time system such as Typhoon power-in-loop and Opal-RT systems with physical real connections to the EMS controller to perform deterministic simulations for unit, sub-system and whole system verification and validation. Implement and carry out simulation studies for onboard microgrid and connection to shore charging infrastructure Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and assist in laboratory management. Mentor students involved in the research project. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned. Job Requirements: Have a PhD’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized University. Major in Power Engineering will be advantageous. Minimum 3 year of relevant experience in high fidelity modelling, HIL (OpelRT or Typhoon), electrical system design for better efficiency and system resiliency, and energy management algorithm development using MATLAB/Simulink for marine microgrid applications. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. Description Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (ACCESS) at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit an Associate Research Scientist to investigate the molecular and genomic mechanisms underpinning the extraordinary heat tolerance of Arabian Gulf corals, the most thermally resilient corals on Earth. The successful candidate will lead an ambitious research program focused on understanding how individual corals and populations vary in their responses to heat stress. This work will involve the application of genomic and gene expression profiling, as well as eco-physiological assays, to reveal the mechanistic basis of thermal resilience. The position is uniquely placed to bridge fundamental molecular research with applied conservation through close collaboration with another postdoctoral researcher who is leading a selective breeding program for heat-tolerant corals. Together, these efforts will support the development of robust coral populations capable of withstanding intensifying climate-related stressors. Applicants must hold a PhD in biological sciences, molecular ecology, genetics, or a related field, completed by January 2024. They must also possess advanced SCUBA certification with demonstrated research-diving experience, as well as strong proficiency in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis.
