Colin Bell , vice-chancellor of the University of Bradford, has been appointed principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Stirling from September.

Roger Brown , principal of the Southampton Institute, has been appointed to the Learning and Skills Council for Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

The University of Greenwich has appointed: Janet Drucker to professor of human resources management; Sue Golding to professor of philosophy in the visual arts and communication technologies; Jonathan Hadgraft to professor of pharmaceutical chemistry; Les Johnson to professor of business systems; Kevin Parrot to professor of computational science; and Rick Trainor to professor of social history.

Brian Field , professor of planning and development at De Montfort University and its former director for academic and curriculum provision, has accepted an appointment at the European Investment Bank , Luxembourg.

The University of Oxford's Said Business School has appointed: Tim Jenkinson reader in business economics and director of the MBA programme; and Liz Miller director of the Oxford Science Enterprise Centre.

Imperial College , London, has appointed: Michael Leschzniner to the chair in aerodynamics and fluid mechanics; Martin Rosser to the chair in clinical neurology; and Brian Spratt to a chair in molecular microbiology.

Rob Margetts , chairman of Legal and General plc, has been appointed chairman of the Natural Environment Research Council .

Brian Eyre has been re-appointed as chairman of the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils .

The University of Surrey has appointed: Allan Moore as head of the department of music; William Finlay as lecturer in pschology; and Fraser Macfarlane as lecturer in health care management.

John Napier , a set designer for shows including Les Miserables and Miss Saigon , has been appointed visiting professor of contemporary theatre at the University of Oxford .

The University of Ulster has appointed: Philip Eames professor of solar energy applications; John McCloskey professor of geophysics; Tony McHale professor of medical biotechnology; John Offer professor of social theory and policy; and Maurice Stringer professor of psychology.
