Michael Blatt , former professor of biological sciences at Imperial College, London, has been appointed to the regius chair of botany at the University of Glasgow .

Michael Clarke , pro vice-chancellor of the University of Birmingham, is the new deputy lieutenant for Worcestershire .

Chris Colbourn has been appointed head of the psychology division in the school of behavioural studies at University College Northampton .

David Harrison , director of health and safety at the University of Birmingham, has been nominated to serve on the Health and Safety Commission 's advisory committee for higher and further education.

Ian Howard , former dean of the faculty of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, has become principal of the Edinburgh College of Art .

Katharine Perera has become senior pro vice-chancellor of the University of Manchester .

Michael Scott , former pro vice-chancellor of De Montfort University, has been appointed  principal and chief executive of the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education .

Hugh Try , chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board, is joining the Learning and Skills Council 's adult learning committee.

John Ward , interim chairman of the Scottish Qualifications Authority, has become chairman of the governing body of Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh .
