Glittering prizes

Sir Hans Kornberg, professor of biology at Boston University, will receive the honorary degree of doctor of laws from the University of Dundee in recognition of his contribution to the development of antibiotics through pioneering research into bacteria.

John Upham, lecturer in information and communications technology at the University of Reading, has been chosen by Peugeot Sport UK as co-driver with South African rally driver Alex Mack in the Peugeot Super 106 Cup.

Mark Griffiths, a reader in psychology at Nottingham Trent University, has won the 1998 Celej Prize, worth e1,500 (about Pounds 1,000). The prize, sponsored by the Spanish Centre for Legal Studies on Gaming, was awarded for the best academic paper on gambling.
