Macedonia's unofficial Albanian-taught University of Tetovo is to receive an additional e5 million (£3.1 million) from the European Union. EU foreign ministers called on ethnic-Albanian extremists to stop violent attacks but approved additional funding for the university, which has been organised under the supervision of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Tetovo
At least 20 faculty and students from the University of Tetovo have been arrested since the fighting in northern Macedonia began. One lecturer, Milaim Fejziu, has been accused of expressing support for the ethnic-Albanian National Liberation Army and incitement to violence during a television interview.

Argentina has dropped a national austerity package including further cuts for universities following the resignation of economy minister Ricardo López Murphy. University of Buenos Aires rector Oscar Shuberoff said the measures would have meant the "destruction of Argentina's public universities".

A report by the advocate-general of the European Court of Justice has backed the European Commission's case against the Italian state for the violation of the acquired rights of foreign-language lecturers in Italian universities.

A private donation will allow the University of Florida to build the world's biggest education centre for butterfly and moth research. The McGuire Center for Lepidoptera will house at least 6 million specimens. William W. McGuire, chairman of United Health Group, and his wife, Nadine, donated $4.2 million (£2.9 million).
Florence
The European University Institute and the Hungarian government have signed an agreement allowing Hungarians to enrol on the same basis as European Union citizens. The institute signed a similar agreement with Poland last year.
