* The University of Wales, Newport has appointed Timothy McIntyre-Bhatty dean of its business school. He has held posts at Bristol University, including research leader, knowledge transfer manager and assistant head of school.
* Leeds College of Music has appointed: soprano Lynne Dawson , as professor of performance; saxophonist Richard Ingham , professor of woodwind; and composer and community music animateur Barry Russell , professor of community music.
* lora Finlay , honorary professor and vice dean of Cardiff Univer-sity's School of Medicine, director of the Institute of Medical Ethics, has been elected president of the Royal Society of Medicine.
* Kingston University has appointed Simon Ofield , currently academic group chair and principal lecturer at Middlesex University's School of Arts, dean of art, design and architecture. He will succeed Deyan Sudjic , who has been appointed director of the Design Museum.
* Southampton Solent UniversityJhas appointed Trevor Thorne director of its marketing and communications service. He is currently the director of marketing and public affairs at Surrey University.
* Greenwich University has appointed the first Atkins professor of civil engineering. Chung Qing Li , a senior lecturer at Dundee University, will take up the post.
