* St Martin's College, Lancaster, has awarded the following titles: David Manning , research co-ordinator, professor of medical imaging; Hilary Cooper , former reader in education, professor of history and pedagogy; Ian Harris , leader of research in the division of religion and philosophy, professor of Buddhist studies. Diane Cox has been awarded the title reader in occupational therapy.

* David Carrott , former deputy director, has been appointed director of estates at De Montfort University.

* Strathclyde University has appointed Eddie Friel , professor and former chief executive of Greater Glasgow Tourist Board, director of its Scottish tourism research unit.

* Bonnie McDougall , professor in the Scottish Centre of Chinese Studies, Edinburgh University, has been appointed visiting professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

* Al Aynsley-Green , Nuffield professor of child health at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at the Institute of Child Health, University College London, has become England's first children's commissioner.

* Manchester Metropolitan University Business School has appointed Huw Morris head. He replaces Nigel Healey who has taken up a post in New Zealand.

* Lawrie Elliott , previously director of research and reader at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Dundee University, has been appointed professor of Napier University's faculty of health and life sciences.

* Joe Cavalla and Martin Lloyd have been appointed sector managers at Portsmouth University, not Plymouth, as stated in On the Move, April 8.
