David Triesman, general secretary of the Association of University Teachers, has been appointed to the Cabinet Office Better Regulation Task Force.

Kate Heasman, ex-president of lecturers' union Natfhe, will head the union's new equal rights unit.

Les Johnson, head of the school of accounting, finance and information systems at the University of Northumbria, has been appointed head of the University of Greenwich Business School.

Eddie Ferguson has been appointed the first Northern Ireland president of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has appointed Joanna Motion, formerly director of communications and development at the University of Kent, as executive director of Case Europe.

Colin Harvey, of the human rights centre, School of Law, Queen's University, Belfast, has moved to a chair in constitutional and human rights law at University of Leeds.
