Richard Trainor, senior vice-principal and professor of social history at the University of Glasgow, has been appointed vice-chancellor of the University of Greenwich from September. He will replace David Fussey, who is retiring because of ill-health.

Barry Brooking, former chief executive of the Parkinson's Disease Society of the UK, has been appointed the British Psychological Society's first chief executive.

Paul Willman, professor of organisational and industrial relations at the London Business School, has been appointed Ernest Butten professor of management studies at the Said Business School, University of Oxford. He will take up the professorship, which is funded by Balliol College with a gift from the Sundridge Park Charitable Trust, founded by Ernest Butten, next academic year.

Kate Niven, professor of nursing and midwifery at Stirling University, has been appointed part-time director of the Nursing Research Initiative for Scotland. She will continue in her present role at Stirling.

Jeya Henry, professor of human nutrition at Oxford Brookes University, has been appointed to the board of the Food Standards Agency.

Dan Cohn-Sherbok, professor of Judaism at the University of Wales, Lampeter, has been appointed visiting professor at the University of Vilnius.

Penelope McNeile, former director of marketing at Thames Valley University, has been appointed director of marketing and development at the University of Westminster.

Rehabilitation Research Unit, has been appointed professor of rehabilitation at the University of York from next month.

David Thompson, former professor of nursing at the University of Hull and recently appointed part-time professor of nursing research at the Department of Health, has joined the University of York as professor of nursing.

Ian Watt has taken up a part-time chair in primary and community care in the department of health studies at the University of York. He continues to work as dissemination manager in the university's NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination and as a general practitioner at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
