Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge, 65, chairman of British Airways, has been elected chairman of Chatham House. He will take up the appointment in late September, succeeding the present chairman, Lord Wright of Richmond, who decided last year not to seek re-election after four years as chairman and seven years on the council.
Author and broadcaster Lord Bragg, 59, is the new chancellor of the University of Leeds. He succeeds the Duchess of Kent, who stood down from the post last October.
Jeremy Aynsley, senior tutor at the Royal College of Art, has become course director of the history of design at the college. He will replace Penny Sparke in September. Professor Sparke has been appointed dean of design at Kingston University.

Richard Taffler, former professor of accounting and finance at City University Business School, has been appointed professor of accounting and finance at Cranfield School of Management.
Derek Larkin, a legal executive specialising in criminal law at John Morgan solicitors, Birmingham, has been elected president of the Institute of Legal Executives.
Steve Oliver, professor of biotechnology at UMIST, has been appointed professor of genomics at the University of Manchester.
Albrecht Wagner, professor of experimental physics at Hamburg University, has become chairman of the directorate of the German particle physics laboratory, DESY, in Hamburg. He succeeds the late Bjorn Wiik.
