In the 2024/2025 academic year, HKU scholars published 7,182 research works and received 192 awards, demonstrating sustained productivity and recognition. LEADERSHIP IN RESEARCH FUNDING AND INNOVATION

HKU consistently secures a leading share of competitive government research funding. Its researchers collaborate internationally through joint research projects, visiting professorships, and joint doctoral programmes with world-class partners. In 2025, HKU recorded the highest number of young scientists awarded in Hong Kong, reflecting its strength in nurturing early-career researchers.

The University also leads Hong Kong by hosting the highest number of State Key Laboratories, with five dedicated to driving advancements in emerging infectious diseases, liver research, synthetic chemistry, pharmaceutical biotechnology, and optical quantum materials—fields that have a profound impact both regionally and globally. Since 1998, HKU has been granted 1,577 patents, showcasing its strong commitment to innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities The appointees will work on a cross-institutional project dedicated to supporting primary students in Hong Kong to learn Chinese, and to enhance their use of Chinese as a medium of learning. Working closely with project schools and teachers, they will be responsible for providing necessary support for developing or adapting materials, and implementing effective pedagogical strategies tailored to the needs of schools and students. Main duties also include liaising with project partners to arrange after-school tutorials and experiential activities; assisting in the delivery of professional development workshops for teachers; conducting regular school visits and consultations; coordinating school-based sharing sessions and other professional dissemination activities; and assisting in project evaluation; and other duties as assigned by supervisor(s). Essential Requirements Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or above in Chinese Language, English Language, Education, or a related discipline, along with a recognized professional teaching qualification. They should have at least 5 years’ teaching experience. Work experience in areas such as Chinese language learning, learning Chinese as a second language, or Language Across the Curriculum (LAC) is preferred. Candidates should have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including fluency in Cantonese), as well as proficiency in general computer operations and Chinese word processing. Desirable Attributes Experience in curriculum development, teacher training, and conducting educational research will be considered an advantage. What We Offer The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence on August 15, 2026, with the possibility of renewal. The appointees will engage in research on the development of intelligent hybrid power architectures to support autonomous operation in chemical and materials synthesis environments, including the implementation of smart synthesis workflows using robotic hands and manipulators. The role will involve contributions to the design, integration, and control of power systems for safe, adaptive, and resilient autonomous research platforms. Qualifications: Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline, and a doctoral degree in Power System Design and Development or a relevant field. They should demonstrate a strong track record of research and expertise in electric power system engineering, particularly in smart power hybridisation. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in multidisciplinary research, especially in areas involving autonomous or robotic systems. Applicants should also show evidence of a strong publication record and excellent scientific communication skills. Responsibilities: Design and develop advanced electric power system architectures for autonomous platforms and laboratory systems. Lead research in smart electric power hybridisation (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors, fuel-based systems, renewable integration). Develop control and energy management strategies for self-driven power systems. Support implementation of autonomous chemical and materials synthesis operations, including robotic-hand-enabled synthesis tasks. Build and validate simulation and experimental prototypes for drones, robotic systems, and autonomous laboratory infrastructure. Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (electrical engineering, robotics, control, AI, chemistry, materials science, and mechanical engineering). Publish high-impact research outcomes and contribute to project reports and grant activities.  Desirable Skills: Experience with embedded power electronics and real-time control systems. Hands-on experience with UAV/drone, robotic, or autonomous platform power systems. Exposure to autonomous laboratories, especially for chemical/materials synthesis. Experience integrating power systems with robotic manipulators/hands for smart laboratory operations. Proficiency in modelling/simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PLECS, or similar).
