We are seeking a highly accomplished and strategic legal professional to join our senior team as the Director of Legal Services. This pivotal role provides strategic leadership and management for the University of Surrey’s legal function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and business-focused legal advice across the full range of university activity. You will be instrumental in developing legal processes and systems, overseeing the delivery of legal services, and managing crucial relationships with external legal advisers to support our ambitious global strategy. The role Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Legal Services will deliver expert legal advice on employment law, student related matters, commercial and IT contracts, procurement, subsidiary governance, data protection, charity law, and operational property matters. The postholder will balance legal risk and regulatory obligations with institutional priorities, providing clear, pragmatic direction on complex issues, ultimately ensuring that there is robust legal compliance across the University and its subsidiaries. The role holds significant institutional accountability as the University’s most senior legal adviser, and is responsible for ensuring that all legal, regulatory, and contractual risks are appropriately identified, managed, and escalated. The postholder will deliver expert advice on routine commercial and operational matters, as well as supporting major institutional projects, including transnational education partnerships and overseas campus developments. About you We are looking for a qualified solicitor or barrister with demonstrable experience providing legal advice at senior or executive level. You will have a strong understand of legal frameworks relevant to higher education, charities or the public sector – this may include knowledge of the Higher Education and Research Act, Office for Students regulation, charity law and/or public procurement.  The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in drafting and reviewing comprehensive governance frameworks, policies, and terms of reference, demonstrating a robust technical understanding of both risk management and governance frameworks, coupled with a deep understanding of the governance implications arising from major partnerships, collaborations, and commercial ventures.  The role requires high-level autonomous decision making and expert problem solving in a complex and rapidly evolving regulatory environment - the successful candidate will be expected to interpret ambiguous legislation and must be confident making informed judgements and finding solutions where precedent may be limited or non-existent. The post of Senior Business Operations Officer (HR) works closely with the School HR Manager and the School’s professional services core team to provide efficient operational support to staff and students in the School. Program Assistant, Academics and Administration The Program Assistant (Academics and Administration), under the supervision of the Associate Director, provides administrative support for the Academic Administration of NYUS. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide broad support as part of a team whose mission is to ensure the effective delivery of a first-rate study abroad experience. The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY TEACHER IN MOLECULAR AND INTEGRATIVE BIOSCIENCES (ESPECIALLY NEUROBIOLOGY) This fixed position from 1.8.2026 (or as agreed) – 31.5.2030 is based in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Biosciences, which is one of the three Departments in the Faculty and located on the Viikki Campus. Tasks Teaching and teaching-related tasks account for the majority (70-90%)of the annual working time. The primary focus will be on contributing to the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience — an international, multilingual programme that attracts both national and international students. In addition, the selected candidate will be involved in bachelor level teaching and teaching-related tasks. Teaching responsibilities will include fundamental topics in neurobiology from molecular and cellular to systems level, as well as quantitative analysis methods and examples of modern approaches in fundamental research. The university teacher selected for the position will be the responsible teacher on selected courses, teach on courses coordinated by other teachers and to assist professors and university lecturers with course preparation and management. Key duties also include student guidance, bachelor’s and master’s thesis supervision and evaluation as well as participation in collaboration with the faculty’s degree programmes. The candidate is encouraged to integrate into Department’s research activities. We expect the candidate to be able to work collaboratively, contributing to joint teaching initiatives and to foster a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Selection criteria According to the University of Helsinki's administrative regulations, applicants must have a relevant higher education degree and teaching experience. When assessing applicants’ qualifications, emphasis will be placed on proficiency and teaching experience in molecular and integrative biosciences, in particular that of relevance for the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience, demonstrated pedagogical competence, supervision of bachelor and master’s theses, and ability to advance the use of interactive and student-centered education methods. Expertise in blended learning approaches that incorporate modern digital tools are regarded as an asset. The successful candidate should have good knowledge of cutting-edge approaches for investigating neurobiological systems at different levels of organization and to be committed to excellence in research-based undergraduate education. Additional merits include a doctoral degree and other research experience, particularly in the field of neurobiology.  Teaching skills The overall teaching skills of a university teacher must be at least at a good level. Applicants' teaching skills will be assessed in relation to the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience in the field of neurobiology. Language skills The university requires that those holding teaching and research positions must be proficient in the language of instruction, which in this case is English. Clinical Research Associate in the Department of Psychosis Studies

About us This is an exciting opportunity to gain and develop research skills. The post-holder will join Dr Tom Pollak’s research group and play a key role in innovative studies taking a new immunologically focussed approach to understanding and treating neuropsychiatric disorders. The group is investigating how the immune system may hold clues to how psychosis and other psychiatric disorders are caused and how people respond to treatments. We will investigate blood and cerebrospinal fluid from patients and use machine-learning to identify the treatment-relevant immune processes, with an emphasis on immune cells, autoantibodies and inflammatory markers. If we can show causal links, our work could guide future targeted immune-based interventions. The studies involve subject recruitment and collection of clinical data and bio samples (blood and cerebrospinal fluid) from patients. The main focus is on an exciting new prospective, longitudinal study aiming to assess the immunological effects of antipsychotic treatment. It is being led by a team from KCL and the Francis Crick Institute and is unique for its interdisciplinary nature, combining expertise from clinical psychiatry, immunology and neuroscience, with significant ongoing input from people with lived experience of psychosis. The post-holder will have a central role in the team and will contribute to its dynamic, friendly and supportive culture, and to its strong spirit of multidisciplinary scientific enquiry. The Department of Psychosis Studies is one of the world’s leading centres for research into psychotic disorders. We aim to advance the understanding and treatment of psychotic disorders across all stages to improve the lives of patients and their families. Our staff include clinical and non-clinical scientists with a wide range of expertise and are recognised globally as innovators of high-quality translational research. About the role The purpose of this role is to deliver exciting and innovative research studies in the Department of Psychosis Studies. Working closely with the Lead Investigators, the post holder will ensure the successful conduct and completion of the research programme. They will contribute to the collection and analysis of data and play a key role in the assessment and monitoring of participants. They will also work closely with other research staff in the project and foster effective collaborative working relationships with the local and regional services for psychosis, as well as neurology, rheumatology and neuropsychiatry services. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to deliver teaching on immunopsychiatry topics and will have the opportunity to join a unique and growing clinical immunopsychiatry service. The post-holder will have opportunities to get involved in data analysis and develop their research interests within the projects. Training in research methods will be provided, and the post-holder will develop skills in using gold-standard diagnostic and clinical ratings, which will be useful for future research and clinical practice. The post would be ideal for a clinician with an interest in the rapidly expanding field of immunopsychiatry. There is potential to develop a project for a PhD application for a suitable candidate. The start date is flexible and may be negotiated with the right candidate. This is a full-time post (40 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months with possibility to extend.
