About Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology

Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology was founded in 1989 by the Tzu Chi Buddhist Compassion Relief Foundation. At the heart of the university is its vision of "professionalism, cultural values, service, and excellence".

As a specialist in science and technology, the university offers students a number of courses in these fields. It has departments in nursing, radiological technology, health management, information technology, and marketing and distribution management. The university strives to educate its students with the knowledge and skills required to become experts in their field.

International academic cooperation and exchange is an important part of the university. It seeks to broaden the mobility and global perspective of its students and professors through academic exchanges. The university has overseas partnerships with numerous higher education institutions, which provides its students with the opportunity to study abroad. It also enables the university to welcome increasing numbers of international students every year. The university’s International Students’ Union was set up to help these students adjust to life abroad. Throughout the year it hosts a variety of social activities, events and trips aimed at embracing cultural differences and encouraging student bonding.

The university is located in Hualien City, along the east coast of Taiwan. Hualien County is considered one of the most naturally beautiful areas of the country with its idyllic beaches, gorges, mountains, and waterfalls. The area provides an escape from Taiwan’s urban centres, and attracts travellers from across the globe. Students at the university have the opportunity to explore the region in their leisure time, as a break from their studies.
