Department of Chinese History and Culture The Department of Chinese History and Culture is an academic department within the Faculty of Humanities.  Its mission is to offer high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that provide interdisciplinary training in the study of Chinese history and culture.  Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Chinese History and Culture, two minor degree programmes in Chinese History and Culture and History of Science and Technology in China, respectively, and university-wide general education courses. The Department conducts quality research in topics related to Chinese history and Chinese culture, in a variety of broadly defined areas. The media of instruction are English and Putonghua. The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold a concurrent headship appointment.  The concurrent headship appointment is normally for an aggregate period of six years in two three-year terms of office.  Other suitable candidate(s) from the search, if deemed appropriate by the University, may be appointed as Chair Professor/Professor if not Head of Department. Qualifications Applicants should have: (a)    a PhD degree in Chinese History and Culture or a relevant discipline, evidence of eminent scholarship and substantial relevant experience in a senior academic position; (b)    attainment of an academic rank of full professor or above at an internationally recognised university; (c)    a distinguished international reputation in research and scholarship, and demonstrated international leadership in any one or more of the specialist areas of Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, Chinese Religion and Chinese Art; (d)    a strong record in attracting competitive or/and interdisciplinary research funding; (e)    a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching; (f)     a global perspective, proven qualities of academic leadership and substantial administration / management experience, as well as demonstrated ability of building up a strong team of faculty members with different research and cultural backgrounds; (g)    effective interpersonal communication skills and resources management skills, and excellent adaptability to changes and challenges;  (h)    good knowledge of the higher education environment in the local and global context; and  (i)     a high standard of personal integrity. Department of Building and Real Estate Teaching Fellow in Construction and Real Estate Technology (Ref. 251118015) The Department of Building and Real Estate is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment. The Department offers a full range of programmes leading to the awards of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science. It has an undergraduate student body of over 600 full-time students and a postgraduate student body of over 300. The Department currently has a total of 30 full-time academic / teaching staff, 20 technical and administrative staff and over 100 research personnel. Qualifications Applicants should have:  (a) a relevant master’s degree in Construction or a closely related field, plus not less than five years of post-qualification tertiary teaching experience and/or relevant professional, practical or industrial experience; preferably with relevant professional qualification;  (b) documented professional achievements in teaching and demonstrated high level of competence in design and delivery of teaching, curriculum and pedagogy development, subject administration and programme management;  (c) some experience in academic management and leadership;  (d) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; and (e) good teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills. STRATEGIC HIRING SCHEME To boost the leadership and impact of PolyU’s research work in areas of significant societal needs and strategic importance, the Strategic Hiring Scheme (SHS) has been introduced to recruit faculty members at all levels and outstanding scholars are invited to join the University under the SHS.  Appointees recruited under the SHS should have conducted / led world-leading research that is commensurate with the stage of their academic career, and they will be offered a start-up grant of not less than HK$3 million to support research activities (including the admission of PhD students, purchasing of equipment, and hiring of research staff) in the initial three years.
