In 2015, the merger of two of France’s leading engineering universities led to the creation of CentraleSupélec.
The two schools which formed CentraleSupélec were the École Centrale Paris and École Supérieure d'Electricité.
École Centrale Paris was founded in 1829 as a school for engineers in a variety of disciplines. École Supérieure d'Electricité (or Supélec for short) was founded in 1864 and specialised in electrical engineering. Over the years both schools gained an international reputation for excellence in their fields and their graduates were some of the highest-earning in France.
CentraleSupélec has developed its own engineering degree which aims to combine the strengths of both component schools into one teaching programme. Students tackle the problems faced by engineers in the 21st century, preparing them for roles as managers, entrepreneurs and on-the-ground engineers.
Alumni of the École Centrale Paris and École Supérieure d'Electricité have gone on to become political and business leaders, including Louis Charles Bréguet, founder of Air France, Thierry Breton, Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry, and Alain Bénichou, CEO of IBM France.
The university has four campuses in historic and picturesque settings. Rennes is the capital city of Britanny, known for its medieval houses and rose gardens. Metz is located in the northeastern Lorraine region and is famous for its gothic cathedral. Gif-sur-Yvette and Châtenay-Malabry are two suburbs south of Paris, each less than an hour away from the capital by public transport.

The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry invites applications for the position of University lecturer in Agrotechnology starting on 1.8.2026 or by mutual agreement. Agrotechnology research focuses on the development of environmentally sustainable technologies for farming and food production. A strong emphasis is on technology innovation and sustainability by taking into account the interaction between technology, plants, animals, environment and society. Many future trends in agriculture require adoption of new technologies and their integration within existing processes. Electrification of machinery, automation, information systems, and machine intelligence represent technological methods that are important for future in order to develop environmentally sustainable farming processes, improve energy and production efficiency, and mitigate environmental impacts. The university lecturer will teach bachelor’s and master’s level courses, supervise theses, participate in doctoral training and develop teaching in the field of the position together with the other academic staff. AGRI-104 Measurement technology 5 credits AGRI-101 Energy and Agriculture 5 credits The university lecturer can also have teaching responsibilities or participate in teaching in other courses. The appointee must have wide understanding of agriculture and the technologies used within it, as well as extensive experience in measurement, implementation of measurement arrangements and data analysis. The responsibilities include research and teaching on agricultural production technologies, covering topics such as modern technologies in plant and/or animal production future cultivation methods, precision farming and automation energy efficiency The university lecturer must have the readiness to acquire research funding. In addition, the appointee will participate in the management of degree programmes, joint teaching, and other related tasks. The appointee gets to develop teaching and research of the field as a member of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Viikki campus and the University of Helsinki together with relevant stakeholder groups. The position offers a possibility to teaching and research with new and future technologies in agriculture and utilisation of digital methods in teaching and research. The appointee must have the necessary pedagogical skills for teaching and motivation for renewing and developing research and teaching. The responsibilities of the university lecturer also include participating in collaboration with other educational institutions in their field, student marketing for the bachelor's and master’s programmes, as well as engaging in societal interaction. Requirements: According to the University of Helsinki Regulations university lecturers must hold an applicable doctoral degree and be capable of providing high-quality, research-based teaching and supervising theses. The assessment of applicant merits considers scholarly publications and other research outputs of scholarly value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a teaching demonstration. The degree requirement (doctoral degree) must be met by the end of the application period. In this position, the teaching and supervision responsibilities will be conducted within Finnish-language degree programmes. Success in this role requires a good command of both spoken and written Finnish. For those who have received their basic education in Finnish, a satisfactory proficiency in Swedish is also required (virkamiesruotsi). The successful candidate will develop new calix[n]arene-based covalent organic frameworks for water purification applications. To explore this area of macrocycle-based porous frameworks for water contaminant removal, the candidate will be involved in the directed synthesis of organic macrocycle containing linkers and porous frameworks and then investigate the supramolecular interactions with various organic pollutants. This would require knowledge in the design and synthesis of porous frameworks, particularly in techniques such as Schlenk line, glove box, powder X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, electron microscopy, and porosity analysis. The candidate is expected to have a thorough understanding of the analytical techniques used to characterize the materials. Experience in the application of such materials to water treatment is preferred. The Research Assistant is expected to work closely with colleagues at the five psychiatric rehabilitation centres, conduct outcome measurements and carry out all administrative procedures in accordance with research governance policies. The Research Assistant will also need to be able to work independently.
