The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of December 2028 The Position The Administration Coordinator will play a pivotal role in developing the foundations that enable the smooth operations and strategic ambitions of the McCusker Institute. Working as part of a core team with links across the University network you will provide high-level administrative, project management, and operational support, coordinating the delivery of the SoCIETIE Initiative and student engagement. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day functions such as scheduling, budgeting, logistics, reporting, and governance support, as well as developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maximise the Institute’s impact. You will also support business development, education design, and integration of diverse inputs to deliver high-quality outcomes for learners and partners. The Person We are seeking a highly organised and proactive individual with proven administration and full-cycle project management skills. You will have demonstrated experience in navigating complex environments, and enjoy engaging with a wide range of internal University and external partner stakeholders to enable education design coordination and delivery. This role gives you hands-on access to Australia’s national supercomputing infrastructure—including world-class HPC clusters, large-scale GPU systems, cloud platforms, and high-performance file systems. The Position The Research Environment Specialist plays a key role in developing, maintaining, and supporting high-quality research environments that enable advanced computation, data analysis, and AI/ML workflows at the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI). The role supports major scientific domains—including climate and weather, geosciences, national water management, bioinformatics, and astronomy—by ensuring researchers can effectively utilise NCI’s HPC, cloud, data, and GPU platforms. Working under the broad direction of the Software and Data Modernisation Manager, the Specialist is responsible for deploying and optimising scientific software stacks, integrating tools and services into NCI’s computational ecosystem, and supporting users with expert advice on HPC, data science, and AI/ML workflows. The position also leads the development of documentation, training materials, and community engagement activities to ensure users can access, understand, and leverage NCI’s capabilities. The role requires strong technical expertise in scientific computing, HPC environments, Linux-based workflows, and modern AI/ML technologies. It also demands excellent communication skills, a proactive service mindset, and the ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders. The Specialist is expected to stay current with emerging technologies, contribute to performance optimisation and software modernisation efforts, and uphold ANU’s standards for safety, equity, and professional conduct. The Person The ideal candidate holds postgraduate qualifications or equivalent experience in HPC, data science and AI/ML, with strong domain expertise in areas such as climate, weather, environmental science or related fields. They demonstrate proven capability in developing, optimising and deploying scientific workflows across HPC, cloud and GPU environments, with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Fortran, C, R or Julia and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks. They have expertise in data formats, software engineering practices, performance profiling and benchmarking, and are confident working within Linux environments and distributed systems. The successful candidate is collaborative, proactive and service-oriented, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with researchers and stakeholders. The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of 4/12/2029.  Position Description and Selection Criteria:PD&PEWER_Level A,Level B_Postdoctoral,Research Fellow.pdf The Position This position is funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project, ‘Improving projections of the risk of ocean-driven Antarctic ice melt’, which aims to use high resolution ocean - sea ice models to understand the oceanic processes which control the delivery of heat to Antarctica’s ice shelves. The Discovery Project is funded for 2026-2029 and represents a collaboration between investigators at the Australian National University (Dr Adele Morrison), University of New South Wales (Prof. Matthew England) and University of Tasmania (Dr Madelaine Rosevear). The Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Fellow in Antarctic Ocean Modelling will use numerical models to develop new understanding of the complex ocean processes that drive Antarctic ice melt. This will lead to improved projections of future rates of sea level rise stemming from Antarctica. Areas of particular interest include understanding mechanisms of heat transport towards ice shelf cavities; investigating the sensitivity of melt to changes in winds, the offshore heat reservoir, along-shelf ocean currents and sea ice; and improving simulations of Antarctic ice shelf – ocean interactions, including basal melt parameterisation. The Person We are looking for an early career researcher with a PhD (or awarding of a PhD within six months of appointment) in the field of physical oceanography or a related area. The Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Fellow will undertake independent research, assist with supervision of research students and actively contribute to the Climate and Fluid Physics group. The School The Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Fellow will be a member of the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). RSES is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth and Marine Sciences.
