These achievements highlight EUC’s strong academic foundations, its dedication to student success and its position among Europe’s leading universities in higher education.
Academic strength with a focus on medical and health sciences
EUC is home to the Schools of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Sciences, Business, Law and Humanities, Social and Education Sciences, alongside a robust Distance Education Unit.
The university is particularly distinguished in medical and health sciences and offers a comprehensive portfolio of 29 programmes, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health and life sciences. Thirteen of these courses are available only at EUC in Cyprus.
Through internationally accredited degrees, modern curricula and clinical partnerships, EUC has become a European hub for medical education and health sciences research, preparing graduates for impactful careers in healthcare, innovation and global medicine.
Research quality and global scientific impact
Research and innovation lie at the heart of EUC’s mission. Over the past five years, the university has tripled its research funding and Scopus-indexed publications, reaching over 500 peer-reviewed papers annually.
This remarkable growth led to EUC’s inclusion in the THE World University Rankings for the first time in 2024 and solidified its standing among Europe’s research-driven universities. EUC currently leads over 70 active research projects, with total funding exceeding €10 million (£8.7 million), supported by national and private funding bodies. Research excellence spans disciplines, with significant output in medicine, social sciences, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, computer science and engineering, complemented by notable strengths in business, health professions and psychology.
EUC’s research excellence is powered by its distinguished faculty, several of whom were ranked among the top two per cent of scientists in the world by Stanford University and Elsevier in 2025. This ranking, based on Scopus bibliometric data, highlights the global scientific impact of researchers across 22 fields and 174 subfields, capturing career-long and single-year impact. The 2024 single-year list featured 12 EUC faculty members and researchers, underscoring the university’s growing research influence and high-impact scholarship.
With expanding international collaborations, active participation in European research frameworks and a strong focus on societal impact, EUC continues to strengthen its reputation as a dynamic research hub in Europe.
Internationalisation: a truly global university
The establishment of the EUC Frankfurt campus in Germany marked a major milestone in the university’s international strategy, extending the reach of its internationally recognised School of Medicine to one of Europe’s most dynamic academic and healthcare centres. Building on this success, European University Cyprus is further strengthening its academic presence in Germany, with applications now open for four new programmes starting in autumn 2026. These include bachelor’s degrees in biomedical sciences, physiotherapy, and nutrition and dietetics, alongside a master’s degree in cancer biology.
Since launching its fully English-taught Doctor of Medicine programme in Frankfurt in 2022, EUC has combined academic excellence with access to Germany’s leading healthcare ecosystem, offering hands-on clinical training and strong international career pathways. Looking ahead, a major campus expansion, planned for completion by 2028, will introduce new academic buildings, advanced research facilities and enhanced student amenities, further positioning EUC Frankfurt as a premier hub for medicine and health sciences in Germany and across Europe.
EUC ranks among Europe’s most globally connected universities, supported by a strategic and growing presence in China. EUC is the only university in Cyprus – and one of the few in Europe – to participate in China’s Universities Alliance of the Silk Road, which seeks to advance academic, cultural and research collaboration across continents. It has strategic partnerships with several universities in China, including Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Minjiang University, where EUC delivers fully accredited degree programmes through the International Digital Economy College, which currently serves more than 1,100 students. EUC also co-founded the first Center of Chinese Studies in Cyprus with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It collaborates with the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, strengthening research cooperation and reinforcing Cyprus’s role as a bridge between Europe and Asia.
A diverse and inclusive global community
EUC is home to a vibrant international community with students and faculty from more than 70 nationalities. This creates a rich multicultural environment that enhances learning, collaboration and global awareness.
Through exchange programmes, international partnerships and diverse campus life, EUC offers students a truly international education experience, which is European in foundation and global in perspective.
With its strong academic reputation, global research impact and commitment to international collaboration, EUC continues to redefine higher education excellence in Europe. Through innovation, inclusivity and a vision aligned with global academic standards, EUC prepares graduates who are critical thinkers, compassionate professionals and globally minded leaders of change.
