The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises the Dean's Office, a StudiesServiceCenter (SSC) and four institutes. The position to be filled is based at the Chair of Clinical Psychology of Childhood and Adolescence (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martina Zemp) at the Institute of Clinical and Health Psychology. Our research area investigates, among other things, family risk and protective factors for mental disorders in childhood and adolescence in basic and applied research (see for specific focal points: https://kpkj-psy.univie.ac.at/forschung/forschungsschwerpunkte/). Methodological foci include research syntheses, Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) and behavioral observation of family interactions. Description The Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) and the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seek to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate to work on a fascinating project focused on the development machine-learning powered digital twin system for the structural performance of civil engineering structures. The project is a collaboration between multiple research groups led primarily by Professor Tarek Abdoun and Professor Mostafa Mobasher. It involves a diverse range of activities including: structural and geotechnical modeling, machine-learning model development, structural sensing and health monitoring, conducting physical experiments, and validation of computational models. Required Qualifications: A successful applicant must have a PhD in Civil Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Mechanical Engineering. Applicants are expected to demonstrate research experience in the fields of structural modeling and machine-learning model development. Members of the research platform will conduct science communication research with a specific focus on the question of trust in science. This research will be interdisciplinary, and led by researchers in Communication Science, Computer Science, Psychology, and Science and Technology Studies. We are currently looking for PhD candidates for 5 different research topics. The position advertised here will be based in the Department of Science and Technology Studies but supervised by an interdisciplinary team from the platform. It will focus on qualitative research exploring how scientific knowledge and institutions may be experienced as (un)trustworthy by diverse public audiences. The successful candidate for this position will be employed by the University of Vienna and their research project will be supervised by an interdisciplinary supervisory team from the University of Vienna. The position is advertised to the extent of 30 hours/week (75%) for a period of four years. The anticipated start date is in June 2026. Your future tasks: The successful candidate will work on a PhD dissertation, participate in research activities of the platform, and contribute to teaching.
