The University of Sheffield climbs to the top, while Manchester and Cambridge are second and third

The University of Sheffield topped the physics unit of assessment, climbing from joint 16th in 2014 after improving its GPA from 3.12 to 3.65. The University of Manchester was second, while the University of Cambridge came third – both were joint seventh in 2014.

The University of Strathclyde – which was first in 2014 – came in joint 13th this time, with a GPA of 3.49, up from 3.35. The University of Oxford dropped from second to joint ninth despite improving its GPA from 3.34 to 3.52. 

At a national level the Physics UoA has a GPA of 3.43, with 48 per cent of its submission rated 4*. 2213.79 FTE staff were submitted to this UoA.
