* Wolverhampton University has appointed Jon Elsmore dean of students. Mr Elsmore was formerly general manager of Wolver-hampton's Student Union.

* Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen has appointed Peter Robertson vice-principal and pro vice-chancellor. Professor Robertson holds a chair in energy and environmental engineering at the institution.

* Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University has appointed Jane Turner , former management development specialist for Orange UK, associate dean, executive development portfolio.

* Bournemouth University has appointed: John Vinney , dean of the faculty of computing engineering and mathematical sciences at the University of the West of England, head of the School of Design, Engineering and Computing; Gail Thomas , dean of nursing and midwifery at Thames Valley University, head of the Institute of Health and Community Studies; Chris Brady , professor at City University's Business School, head of the Institute of Business and Law; Chris Miller , head of commercialisation at the Natural Environment Research Council, head of the Centre for Research and Knowledge Transfer; and Dame Yvonne Moors , former chief nursing officer and a director of the National Health Service, pro-chancellor.

* Stephen Ball , chair of the Council for Hospitality Management Education, has been awarded the title of professor of hospitality management at Sheffield Hallam University and appointed head of the Centre for InterNational Hospitality Management Research.
