Manchester University has appointed: Geraint Vaughan, formerly professor at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, professor of atmospheric science; Matti Häyry, former professor and head of the Centre for Professional Ethics at the University of Central Lancashire, professor of bioethics and philosophy of law; Mark Boyett, former professor at Leeds University, professor of cardiac electrophysiology; Nicholas Turner, professor at Edinburgh University, professor of chemical biology; Frank Mort, former professor at the University of East London, professor of cultural histories; Margaret Gale, reader at Birmingham University, professor of drama; James Thompson, former senior lecturer at the Victoria University of Manchester, professor of drama; Roger Hartley, professor at Keele University, professor of economic theory; Helen Gunter, former senior lecturer at Birmingham, professor of education policy, management and leadership; Peter John, former professor at London University, Hallsworth professor of governance; Ian Forsythe, professor at Leicester University, professor of neuroscience; Alison Gurney, professor at Strathclyde University, professor of pharmacology;
