Roehampton Institute, London. DUniv of the University of Surrey from the Institute was awarded to Evelyn Glennie, musician winner of the 1984 Gold Medal in the Shell/LSO Music Scholarship, Royal Philharmonic Society's Charles Heisieck Soloist of the Year award (1991), fellow of the Royal College of Music and of the Royal Academy of Music, honorary fellow of the Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Keele University

DLitt: Christopher Taylor, former head of the Cambridge Office of the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England), acting secretary of the commission and head of the commission's archaeological survey until his retirement, president of the Society of Landscape History and fellow of the British Academy.

MSc: St. John Robinson, member of the Keele Astronomical Society, volunteer on the team rebuilding the university's 24-inch telescope, mainstay of the observatory's public understanding of science project.

Janus Pannonius University, Hungary

The university presented an honorary doctorate to Abby Ghobadian, professor of manufacturing and operations strategy and director of the institute of research and postgraduate studies at Middlesex University's business school, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the university.
