LLD: Helena Kennedy, Queen's counsel, member of the Howard League for Penal Reform and Commission into Child Sexual Abuse, broadcaster and author, chancellor of Oxford Brookes University since 1994.

University of Surrey Honorary doctorates: Patrick Boulter, surgeon and pioneer in cancer prevention, founder of the Jarvis Centre in Guildford, honorary visiting professor and former consultant surgeon at Guy's Hospital, London, Royal Surrey Council Hospital, Guildford, and president of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh); David Davies, chief scientific adviser to the Ministry of Defence, former vice chancellor of Loughborough University of Technology.
