Kate McLuskie , deputy vice-chancellor of Southampton University and former head of English and dean of the arts faculty school of research and graduate studies, has been appointed director of the Stratford Institute.

The chairman and governors of Dartington College of Arts have confirmed that Andrew Brewerton , dean of art and design and professor of glass at Wolverhampton University, has been appointed principal.

The new University of Manchester has confirmed the following appointments: John Arnold , professor, dean and director of the existing Manchester Business School, has been appointed director of the new school with effect from October 1; and Ken Green , professor and head of the School of Management since September 2003, has been appointed academic dean.

Manchester Metropolitan University has confirmed the following appointments: Paul Cammack , professor of government at the Manchester University, will take up his post as head of politics and philosophy; John Hooker , scientific adviser and head of research management at the Scottish Executive, has been appointed head of environmental and geographical sciences; Steve Hawley , head of art at Sheffield Hallam University, head of the School of Art; and David Jones , professor of sport and exercise sciences at Birmingham University, professor of muscle physiology.

Hassan T. Hassan , formerly director of the Institute of Medical Sciences and Health, and professor of oncology at Lincoln University, has been appointed director of research at the University of Central Lancashire.
