The Rockefeller Foundation. Gordon Conway, vice chancellor of the University of Sussex, has been named the 12th president of the foundation, effective April 1, 1998.

University of Wolverhampton

John Brooks, currently assistant principal (research and professional development) at Sheffield Hallam University, has been appointed vice chancellor designate from April 1998. He will take up office following the retirement of M. J. Harrison in August.

Trinity College, London

Mark Stringer, professor of music in the London Faculty for James Madison University, Virginia, former master of music and director of concerts at the Royal Parish Church of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, has been appointed director of music and speech examinations; Nicholas King, director of studies at the Royal College of Music, has been appointed chief examiner for music.

Institution of Civil Engineers

Richard Larcombe, formerly with Costain and ARC, deputy chief executive (development) at the National Council for Vocational Qualifications, has been appointed director of education, training and membership.

University of Teesside

Janet Bainbridge, professor and director of the school of science and technology, has accepted an invitation from the minister for food, Jeff Rooker, to chair the Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes.
