Cranfield University

Alan Cain, former assistant principal (marketing and student affairs) Swansea Institute of Higher Education, has been appointed international development officer.

Cardiff, University of Wales

Neil Kinnock, European commissioner for transport, former leader of the Labour party and former leader of the Opposition, president of the student union (1965-66) and honorary fellow of the university, has been appointed president and his office will run from 1998 to 2003.

Aston University

David Johnson, founder of the public sector management research centre and head of the public sector management division, has been appointed director of undergraduate studies in the business school.

Westhill College of Higher Education

David Davies, director of continuing education at the University of Surrey has been appointed deputy principal.

The Engineering Council

Andrew Ramsay, secretary of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers will take up his appointment as director for engineers' regulation at the council in September.
