Hull York Medical School

Patricia McGettigan is one of a flurry of international appointments to the Hull York Medical School (HYMS), which was set up by the universities of York and Hull in 2003.

Three leading international scholars will join HYMS from overseas in September, but Dr McGettigan has already arrived.

She was a senior lecturer in the faculty of health and a consultant physician at Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Newcastle, Australia.

She trained at Trinity College Dublin. As a clinical researcher, she has been a chief investigator on research projects in Australia looking into cardiovascular risk associated with a number of drugs. She was a member of the Economics Sub- Committee of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, providing technical advice to the Australian Government on public subsidy of new medicines.

Dr McGettigan joins HYMS as a senior lecturer in medicine and will be a clinical academic consultant with the North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust.

Ingrid Fleming has been appointed HYMS foundation chair in biomedical sciences, joining from Frankfurt University.

Thomas Walther will join HYMS as chair in biomedical sciences. He is currently at the Charite (Campus Benjamin Franklin) in Berlin.

Francisco Rivero has been appointed HYMS senior lecturer in biomedical sciences. He joins from the Centre for Biochemistry, medical faculty, University of Cologne.

Charles Lacey was appointed to HYMS in June as professor of medicine (genitourinary medicine), from Leeds General Infirmary. Ian Greer was appointed dean of HYMS earlier this year.

OUT

Bill Gillespie , dean of HYMS, retires.

Helen Iball , lecturer in drama, has left Hull University to become a lecturer in theatre studies at Leeds University.

Fiona Bannon , head of the school of arts and new media at Hull's Scarborough campus, has left to become lecturer in dance at Leeds University.
