University of Warwick - Unbridled talent harnessed

The wasted talent of thousands of would-be jockeys has prompted a researcher at the University of Warwick to help set up a new foundation degree for the racing industry. Deborah Butler, a postdoctoral student at Warwick's department of sociology and a tutor at Warwickshire College's equine department, found that there was a marked decline in the number of people who wanted to work in the racing industry, partly because of the low success rate of aspiring jockeys. The distance-learning foundation degree will be run by Warwickshire College in conjunction with the British Racing School.
